We can all agree thathorroris one of the most entertaining movie genres out there, right? You don’t even have to be a genre fan to know that a good scare is sometimes necessary and that after the jolt, you will nervously laugh and sigh in relief. They don’t even have to be great moviesto be entertaining. They just have to comply with a few rules.
We decided to twist things around and make a different list. In the following selection, you will find greatly entertaining horror movies that are far from perfect and some that you probably haven’t seen. They’re great for moments in which you need sheer, mindless entertainment. These are some great (but not too great) horror movies that’ll keep you smiling from start to finish.

10’Event Horizon' (1997)
Event Horizon
Event Horizontells the story of the crew aboard the intergalactic spaceship Lewis and Clark. When their ship captures a distress call from the Event Horizon, a ship that vanished seven years earlier, they decide to investigate what could have happened. Although the premise sounds similar to the one in 1979’sAlien, there are no xenomorphs here. Weirdly, it’s something worse.
A Near-Perfect Space Horror Movie
Event Horizonis a great example ofthe space horror subgenre. It is one of those films from the 1990s that had an excessive production budget, but never had a chance to make a profit. It’s tense, scary, and the third act is a bonkers version of many sci-fi tropes that flow towards a horror conclusion that will appeal to everyone.
9’The Loved Ones' (2009)
The Loved Ones
The Loved Onesfollows Brent, a young teenager going through grief who doesn’t realize that rejecting Lola Stone’s invitation to the prom will be his worst decision. Brent is “saved” before committing suicide and wakes up strapped to a chair. It’s the work of sociopath Lola Stone, who you should never say no to.
You Will Never Guess Where This One Goes
The quite obscureAustralian horror filmis the worst date movie you’re able to think of. Not because of what Lola actually represents, but because the amount of suffering that Brent goes through is unimaginable. That is because Lola isn’t just angry and trying to recreate a prom, but because she and her family are hiding something else. You’ll never be able to guess what happens, and that’s alright. After all, the movie is entertaining enough to make you forget about asking unnecessary questions.
10 Incredibly Underrated Stephen King Movies You May Have Missed
Many Stephen King movie adaptations exist, but only a few are considered to be good or great. Now you can add these underrated gems to that list.

The Most Underappreciated Sequel to a Horror Classic
How do you follow up on one of the greatest horror films ever made? The secret lies innot trying to repeat what the first movie did.Psycho IIis not only a good film, but a criminally underrated sequel to Hitchcock’s 1960 classic. It’s funny, gory, and doesn’t play around with the legacy of horror’s iconic “villain with mommy issues.” Weirdly, Tarantino actually prefersPsycho IIover the original.
7’Slither' (2006)
InSlither, residents of the small town of Wheelsy, South Carolina, are facing an unexpected threat. A meteorite has crashed in town, and it has brought an alien parasite with it. The creature “spreads” quite easily, and chief of police Bill Pardy, along with the recently widowed Starla (due to her husband’s nasty encounter with the creature), try their best to fight the parasitic alien in the funniest horror film you have never seen.
When James Gunn Was Into Horror
James Gunn’s feature directorial debutis far from DCU and MCU standards. InSlither, he shows his Troma Entertainment roots and pays homage to iconic horror films likeNight of the CreepsandThe Thing. Whether you’re easily grossed out by practical gory effects or not, one thing’s for sure:Slitheris one of those edgy horror movies that are absolute fun from start to finish.
6’Feast' (2005)
InFeast, people are having a blast in a bar in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly, a blood-soaked man crashes through the door and says that they’re all in danger. Seconds after, when he’s about to convince everyone, he gets pulled from one of the windows and beheaded in front of everyone. Per his looks, it seemed that he was the right dude to play the hero (it’s the bulky and handsome Eric Dane), but now all bets are off in the insanely entertainingFeast.
The Best Creature Feature You’ve Never Seen
Feastwas the result of the writers and the director winning Season 3 of the reality seriesProject Greenlight. The film was executive-produced by huge industry figures like Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Wes Craven, and with these credentials, you would think that thecreature featurewould ultimately tilt towards a more serious tone. But in reality,Feastis B-movie bliss that will make you squirm at the excessive gore and laugh out loud at the humor.
5’Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II' (1987)
Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night IIfollows high-schooler Vicki Carpenter being tormented by something she can’t understand. When Vicki looks for a prom dress in her school’s prop room, she unleashes the spirit of Mary Lou Maloney, a student who was burned to death 30 years ago. Mary Lou possesses Vicki and begins a vendetta against those who resemble the ones who caused her death decades ago.
A Stupendous Non-Sequel
Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night IIis the weird case of a sequel that has nothing to do with the original. Producers just thought that the name clicked and demanded that the high school had to be the same as the previous entry starring Jamie Lee Curtis. The result was an unnecessary element that, fortunately, does not affect what’s essentiallyone of the best supernatural horror films of the 1980s. If you’re into ’80s horror, this one should be a priority.
4’Trick ‘r Treat’ (2007)
Trick ‘r Treat

The Power of a Good Horror Anthology
Before he madeKrampusandGodzilla: King of the Monsters, Michael Dougherty delighted audiences with his horror anthology that’sperfect to watch every Halloween. Segments vary in nature, but curiously, and this doesn’t happen with most horror anthologies, all of them will satisfy the cravings of horror buffs and will you keep laughing from start to finish. How this one didn’t get a sequel is beyond understanding.
3’The Devil’s Candy’ (2015)
The Devil’s Candy
The Devil’s Candyfollows Jesse Hellman, an artist who moves with his family to a house where violent events have taken place recently. The Hellmans decide to turn the page and start over, but Jesse starts hearing things. Things that, coincidentally, are also being heard by the man who lived in the house before and whose mind is inhabited by a demonic spirit.
Heavy Metal and Horror Do Mix
There’s a reason why Sean Byrne is the only director to have two spots on the list, and it is because his films are rich with details, fascinating characters and completely “fat-free.”The Devil’s Candyis another wild horror film that explores its subgenre’s themes with a pretty basic storyline that doesn’t require much thinking and flows into a celebration ofpure demonic horrortropes. And the heavy metal element? Chef’s kiss.

Zack Snyder’s Debut Is Still One of His Best Movies
Yes, Romero’s version still has the cultural value that makes it an endless classic. But this doesn’t mean thatSnyder’s remakeisn’t a fun and entertaining movie. It’s fast-paced, funny, and ruthless when it breaks the zombie subgenre rules. The opening sequence is the only proof you need to know that you’re in for a very different horror ride.
1’No One Will Save You’ (2023)
No One Will Save You

A Solidly Entertaining Piece of Sci-Fi Horror
Almost void of any dialogue,No One Will Save Youis a blast of a horror sci-fi film. Special effects are great, sound effects are effective, and Kaitlyn Dever’s performance is staggering. The movie doesn’t beat around the bush by presenting pointless plot details, and it moves straight into the action. If you likealien invasion films, this is the one to see next.
