The world of anime is agiant rabbit hole. Once you fall into it, you keep falling deeper and deeper. Since there are all kinds of anime, there are some thatcan be a bit weird. Sometimes a little too much. The biggest reason behind this is that all kinds of constraints are thrown out of the window, when it comes to bothplot and animation. Thus, animators can use this freedom to give life to any kind of imagination. Some can be pretty bizarre, to say the least. Anime offers everything from skewed imagery to nonsensical narratives, to psychedelic mind trips, to abstract views of mental health. Here is a list of absurd animes that are almost too ridiculous to watch.

6Sekko Boys

The anime tells a tale about Miki, a recent art graduate who accepts a position as the manager of the Sekkou Boys, a brand-new idol group. The real catch is that Sekkou Boys are four stone figures of Michelangelo’s Medici, St. Giorgio, Mars and Hermes. Miki despises statues to the core because she is terrible at painting them and was made fun of for it at her art school. The concept of the show makes no sense at all. The statues have nobody; thus, they must be dragged to their concerts. Despite not being able to move on their own or move their lips, they weirdly can sing, and the audience gets no explanation for this.

The most absurd part of it all is that no one in the show appears to wonder why the statues are grouped together as idols, whether they are truly sentient, or even how they can talk. Everyone is so used to it as if it is entirely normal. WhileSekkou Boysis a satirical critique of the idol industry’s exploitation of young people, it sometimes gets too ridiculous to keep watching due to its senseless plot line.

5Prison School

Hachimitsu Academy, a prestigious all-girls high school, becomes co-ed for the very first time in its long history. The story mainly centers around the five men, who are a joyous bunch of perverts that find it difficult to interact with women! These five deprived-of-women interactions, the lads set out on a dangerous endeavor to spy on many girls while they shower. However, a string of accidents ultimately causes their plan to fail. Their actions get exposed in front of the rest of the school.

The threatening Underground Student Council sendsthe boys to jail for a whole month. However, the boys are in for a ride because their perverted behavior is only going to get worse, as quite unusual punishments come their way by a brutally seductive VP of the council.Prison Schoolis an absurd show in every shape or form. Everything about it, from its premise and story, to the animation and dialogue, nothing makes sense. Most of the time, the visuals just get too R-rated to make sense of. Girls are extremely sexualized; the punishments also feel borderline erotic, and the boys, despite being sexual harassers, are shown as victims, makingPrison Schoolutterly preposterous to even watch.

4Zombieland Saga

In a world where people fangirl over BTS or Harry Styles, imagine people idolizing a pop group of zombies! Well, that is precisely what this anime is about. The show centers around Sakura Minamoto, who aspires to be a pop star. However, she, unfortunately, gets a reality check and dies in a terrible car accident. After ten years, she wakes up in a place called Saga Prefecture, only to discover that she is a zombie with no memory of her previous life. While still processing her death, she is introduced to Koutarou Tatsumi, who explains that he is the one behind resurrecting her. He tells her that he has also resurrected six more girls from various eras, in order to create a zombie idol group that will help Saga’s economy.Zombieland Sagais one of those anime that one may have a hard time explaining due to its weird plot, which makes the watchers wonder how someone even came up with such a concept.

The realm of dreams can be a phenomenal door into the psyche, revealing one’s innermost desires, buried memories, and profound aspirations. One company started creating “DC Mini,” a tool that can dive into other people’s dreams. to use this technology to extensively examine patients' minds and aid in treating their psychiatric problems, Atsuko Chiba and Kosaku Tokita began working nonstop to finish it. However, there is a great deal of responsibility that comes with being able to access someone’s innermost thoughts. If the technology falls into the wrong hands, it can be used for psychological terrorism, leading to targets' mental collapse. The story picks up when Atsuko and Kosaku realize their technology has been stolen, and the surrounding folks are acting strangely.

Zombieland Saga

While the film’s premise isquite interesting, the visuals and the way the audience is taken on this journey of people’s dreams are ludicrous, to say the least. There are people grinning while jumping off the roof, faces emerging out of faces, inanimate objects marching in a parade, and people flying, individuals turning miniature sized, and this is just the tip of the iceberg of the visualsPaprikahas. If one were to describePaprikain a simple sentence, it would be as if the audience went on a bad acid trip.

2Shokugeki no Soma

This anime revolves around Souma Yukihira, who has a passion for cooking. Since he can remember, he has been working in the kitchen with his father. His dream is to one day outperform his father and take over. However, things take a turn when he learns that the restaurant they work at is closing. Instead of following his father, he enrolls at the renowned Tootsuki Culinary Academy. The school is known for its “Shokugeki,” which happens to be feisty culinary competitions among students to resolve disputes.

While the premise sounds harmless and something many might prefer watching, it takes a strange turn from here. The show’s comedy is more on the raunchy side and gets pretty senseless. One of the most absurd things the show does, happens whenever someone eats food that is prepared by the contestant. They start experiencing raunchy, erotic reactions to the food. People get naked, and their erogenous zones and skin are played up in order to show arousal. This is not whereShokugeki no Somastops; the characters also start talking in an orgasm-like tone, which is why fans started calling this reaction “foodgasm.” Not something one might expect from a culinary show, making it absolutely absurd to watch.

Paprika

The story mainly centers around Nozomi Kaminashi, who enters the Keijo realm in the hopes of providing her impoverished family with a comfortable lifestyle. Keijo is essentially thiscompetitive sportthat follows a basic set of rules: Number one and most important, it is only for female participants. Second, competitors should stand on circular platforms that float in a pool with the objective of making the opponents fall off by using their butts and breasts only. This is one of those premises that makes the reader reread as they are completely baffled by what they have just witnessed. Just like the premise, the competition scenes are quite insane to watch as the audience feels like they can see the mind of a 14-year-old boy coming to life on screen.
