A Quiet Place: Day OnestarsLupita Nyong’oandJoseph Quinnhave discussedwhat it was like to make a film with minimal dialogue. Despite not being based on the same narrative structure of character interaction through dialogue, the actors revealed that the script was very descriptive in what they had to communicate through physical expression. If you’re familiar with theA Quiet Placefranchise, then you no doubt understand exactly what the stars ofA Quiet Place: Day Onemean.

In an interview withComicBook.com, Quinn, who is best known for playing Eddie inStranger Things, expanded on the difference between a regular script and this one:

“It was very descriptive of the miscellany of sequences that we had to go through, but it was definitely light on the dialogue. It was a very interesting spot to be in, where the dialogue was very effective, and kind of punched through a lot of subtext.

It was very communicative in a way that was urgent, I guess, because the only reason you’re going to talk in an environment like this, which is perilous if you make any noise, is when it’s absolutely urgent. The rest was up to us to kind of fill that in.”

A Quiet Place: Day One

A Quiet Place: Day One is a spin-off of the A Quiet Place franchise conceived by John Krasinski. The film is set at the beginning of the invasion as humanity scrambles to survive, before the events of the original film, with Lupita Nyong’O leading the cast, directed by Michael Sarnoski.

The film, which has nowreceived hugely positive early reactions, is a prequel to the two predecessors starring Emily Blunt and directed by John Krasinski, and it goes back a few years and puts audiences right where it all started. It takes place in New York City, and it tells the story of a woman called Sam (Nyong’o), who goes through the ordeal of watching an alien invasion take place.A Quiet Place: Day Onewill probably make good use of the sound landscape that characterized the first two films. Let’s not forget that the invading little green men are ultrasensitive to sound, and a pin drop is as loud as a bang.

Joseph Quinn

Recognizing the required physicality of the film, Quinn also praiseshis co-star’s physical dedication to the film:

“Lupita was undergoing this incredible kind of physical transformation for it. She was in ketosis, and it was amazing to watch her be as present as she was and give as much as she did to every single scene.”

The A Quiet Place Franchise Has Provided a Great Theatrical Experience So Far

The previous films in the horror sci-fi franchiseA Quiet Placehave been unforgettable experiences for audiences. Silence was a strict requirement for enjoying the film, and everyone knows how essential silence is for a proper theatrical experience. It was a bold move by Krasinski, of course, astheater audiences have evolved(and not exactly in a good way). However, the films were compelling enough to trap everyone from the very beginning and keep them in suspense throughout the entire film.

The spin-off prequel is not bringing back Krasinski as a director. He decided to stay in the producer’s chair, and aftera failed attempt to make the filmwith Jeff Nichols, he decidedPig’s Michael Sarnoski was a good candidate. Aside from Quinn and Nyong’o, the film also stars Djimon Hounsou, who is the only actor from one of the previous films to show up inA Quiet Place: Day One. Additional details are scarce, but given Quinn’s description of the script, it appears the prequel will be another success in the “quiet theatrical experience” department. We’ll find out soon.
