Netflix has recently been the place to findAdam Sandlerthanks to his huge first-look deal with the streamer, but now fans of the actor are also enjoying his 2011 romantic comedyJust Go With It. The film has surged up the U.S. Netflix chart since arriving on the platform, allowing audiences who flocked to watch Sandler’s team-up withJennifer Anistonin twoMurder Mysterymovies to see the pair’s first collaboration.
Just Go With Itis a typical Sandler offering, in which he plays successful plastic surgeon Daniel Maccabee, who pretends to be in a failing marriage to avoid commitment. When he finally meets a woman he does actually want to have a relationship with, he asks his assistant, Kathrine – played by Aniston, to pretend to be his soon-to-be-ex-wife. As is the nature of rom-coms, things get complicated very quickly as lies spiral out of control, and the laughs come…well, every now and then.

Just Go With Itis not Sandler’s worst rated movie – as there is a lot of competition for that title –but the film did end up with a lowly 19% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.Ironically, the main criticisms of this by-numbers rom-com almost read like a tired and overused trope in itself –described as being overly formulaic, full of hit-and-miss slapstick humor, and romantic comedy tropes.Audiences gave the film a 59% approval score, andturned out in decent numbers to give the film a $215 million worldwide gross on the back of its $80 million budget.Seemingly, this was a sign of the success the pair would find when teaming for their next movie more than a decade later.
Adam Sander & Jennifer Aniston Scored a Huge Hit with Their Next Collaboration
The success ofJust Go With Iton Netflix is a reminder that even though critics tend not to love Sandler’s brand of comedy, attaching his name to a movie almost guarantees some kind of success. This has been particularly true of several years worth of Netflix exclusives, which includehis 2019 reteaming with Aniston in the comedy whodunit,Murder Mystery. This time around, the pair do actually play a married couple, who have a love of murder mystery stories and end up becoming part of one when they are fingered as the prime suspects in a murder case while on vacation.

Murder Mysterybecame one of the biggest original movies ever to debut on Netflix, pulling in 31 million views in its first three days on the platform and drawing the usual criticism from reviewers. Naturally, this set plans for a sequel in motion, and in 2023Murder Mystery 2became another critically mauled but much-streamed hit. While it is unclear whether Sandler and Aniston will reunite for a thirdMurder Mysterymovie,Sandler is currently filming another sequel for Netflix in the form of Happy Gilmore 2. While there are few certainties in the world of movies, the idea that this belated legacy sequel could well break Sandler’s own record on the platform is one that it is very easy to see happening when the movie debuts next year.
