The stars ofAirheadsstill have great love for one another in 2022. Back in 1994,Adam SandlerandBrendan Fraserstarred in the cult classic comedy alongside Steve Buscemi as a trio of hard rockers who hijack a radio station to get their music heard. Directed by Michael Lehmann and written by Rich Wilkes, the film also featured notable names like Chris Farley, Ernie Hudson, Michael McKean, and Judd Nelson. It was a box office bomb but would go on to gain a cult following with many fans looking back fondly upon Airheads in retrospect.
Almost three decades later, Sandler and Fraser are both generating Oscar buzz with their respective performances inHustleandThe Whale. PerEntertainment Weekly, Sandler addressed this correlation and noted how happy he is to see his longtime friend garnering so much critical acclaim. At the same time, theHustlestar isn’t surprised by Fraser getting this attention, as Sandler says he’s always known how great his former co-star is. As Sandler puts it:

“He’s just so smart, such a deep guy, and he’s such a loving sweetheart. We’ve been talking a lot lately and I couldn’t be happier for him. His performance, I saw [The Whale], is ridiculous. He’s always been great, he’s always been as deep as it gets. When we were doing Airheads, he was on a different trip than all of us.”
Going back toAirheads, Sandler notes how Fraser took that role very seriously, as he’s done with every role he’s taken on since including his most recent inThe Whale. Getting Fraser into the Oscar conversation has been a long time coming, says Sandler.
“He really took [Airheads] serious, he took everything about the full growth of his character and his look and what each line meant. He was never messing around. The fact that he got to makeThe Whale, and a bunch of great movies over the years, but the fact that it’s at such a great crescendo for him right now is not a shock.”
