The next great science fiction series may be on its way.Prime Video’s new thrillerNight Skyis set to drop exclusively on the streaming platform next month.
Night Skyis described as a high concept, fantastical adventure with characters that still feel real and human. The series hails from Legendary Entertainment, the same production company behind the similarly high conceptCarnival Row, led by Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne. Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios’ co-head of television, says of the project:
“Holden and Dan have created an ambitious story, one that’s fantastical but filled with utterly human characters. We’re so pleased to team with Legendary on another compelling new series, and we can’t wait to see how this team brings this world to life.”
Notably, rather than filming in a traditional production hub such as L.A. or New York,Night Skyis filming in rural Illinois. Specifically, some filming locations include the towns of Woodstock, Frankfort, Wauconda, and Island Lake. The series was also filmed at Cinespace Film Studios in Chicago.

Plot: What We Know
While we do not have many specific details as of now, we do know the basic plot structure.Night Skycenters on an older married couple named Franklin and Irene York. Many years ago, the couple discovered a secret chamber in their backyard that led to a distant, deserted planet. The Yorks have guarded that secret ever since. Fast-forward to now, when a reported “enigmatic” young man enters the couple’s lives and quickly upends what they thought they knew. The Yorks soon discover that the secret chamber they have guarded all their lives turns out to be so much more than they ever could have imagined.

While giving us an idea of what to expect, this description still leaves much to the imagination, with many unanswered questions. How did that chamber get there, and what is its exact connection to the York family? Who is this enigmatic young man? How exactly will it upend their lives? Cast: What We Know
When the series was first announced,Sissy Spacekwas confirmed to play the lead role of Irene York, with Ed O’Neill joining as her husband, Franklin. However, O’Neill later dropped out and was replaced byJ.K. Simmons.
In addition to Spacek and Simmons in the lead,Night Skyfeatures a variety of supporting players. The so-called enigmatic young man who forms a bond with Irene, named Jude, is played by Chai Hansen. Julieta Zylberberg is playing Stella, who is described as a single mother living in Argentina who harbors a dark secret. It is currently unknown what her connection will be to the York family. Rocio Hernandez plays Stella’s daughter Toni, who resents her mother and secrets.
Kiah McKirnan is set as Denise, the granddaughter of the Yorks. She looks after her grandparents and seeks validation in her academics after the loss of her father. The Yorks also have a busybody neighbor, Byron, played by Adam Bartley, who convinced himself that the Yorks have a secret and is determined to prove himself right.

The series has also set three prominent recurring roles. Beth Lacke plays Chandra, a former student of Irene York who is unsatisfied with her life and is sent in a new direction after a chance meeting with her old teacher. Stephen Louis Grush is playing Nick, who is socially awkward and eager to impress everyone he meets. He often winds up in bad situations and finds that he has a strange connection to Stella. Cass Bugge is Jeanine, the wife of neighbor Byron. She loves her husband but gets easily frustrated with his endless suspicions about the York family.

Release Date: What We Know
Night Skywill be releasedexclusively on Amazon Prime Video on July 05, 2025. In addition to its launch in the United States, the series will drop in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The first season consists of eight episodes, and all eight will be available immediately on the date of launch. For now, only time will tell if this series becomes the next big sci-fi hit.
