Ana de Armasportrays an undeniably badass character, not unlike the Baba Yaga, in 2025’s highly anticipated filmFrom the World of John Wick: Ballerina.Nevertheless, de Armas' character, Eve Macarro, isn’t an exact copy of the beloved Boogeyman, John Wick – played yet again by Keanu Reeves inBallerina.Rather, Eve approaches getting things done a little differently than Reeves' Lo Spettro, aka the Ghost, does, as de Armas explained in an interview withColliderby saying:
“I think there are some trademarks in the style of the fights in John Wick, and things that he does that are very particular to him. But because in this movie we’re seeing through Eve’s eyes the background of that training that John had, and how these assassins and ballerinas, how these people become these assassins, there are some little details that are the same. But Eve Macarro is Eve Macarro. She’s not John Wick.”

The official trailer teases some intense action sequences featuring Eve matching wits with several opponents like the Boogeyman himself might. However, Eve Macarro of the Ruska Roma must transform into an assassin herself if she wants to defeat those standing in her way. Naturally, the biggest thrill from the trailer andthe CCXP Extended Look sneak peekis the inclusion of Reeves as John Wick in the film. And, as it turns out, de Armas played an integral role in getting the A-list actor to appear in the highly anticipated spin-off.
Ana de Armas Was “Definitely Helpful in Getting Keanu Reeves Excited” About ‘Ballerina’
Ana de Armas and Keanu Reeves“have a lot of great scenes together” inBallerina, according toJohn Wickfranchise andBallerinaproducer Basil Iwanyk. He also revealed that de Armas was integral in getting Reeves to appear in the upcoming spin-off film and reprise his iconic role as the Baba Yaga.
The Boogeyman’s death during his duel with the Marquis de Gramont (Bill Skarsgård) could have marked the end of the road for Mr. Wick, but Reeves hasn’t said goodbye to the character for good, despiteJohn Wick: Chapter 4’sdepressing ending. Iwanyk also told MovieWeb (below):

“We went to Ana and, and she loved Len [Wiseman’s] take, and she wanted to be an action star. And then when we talked about getting Keanu into the movie, she’d known Keanu for years and kind of helped to reach out and go, ‘Let’s do this, come on, it’s gonna be fun.’ And so, she was definitely helpful in getting Keanu excited about the movie. And Keanu’s a gigantic fan of Ana, so I think he got really excited about Ballerina once Ana came on board.”
