Starz has released a new trailer for Season 3 ofAsh Vs. Evil Dead, although it doesn’t feature any actual footage from this upcoming season. Instead of showcasingAsh vs. Evil Dead footage, the video is a commercial for Shemps Beer, featuring Bruce Campbell’s Ash and Dana DeLorenzo’s Kelly Maxwell having some fun at a lounge, set to the 1980s classic “(I Just) Died In Your Arms” by Cutting Crew. For those who are longtime fans of theEvil Deadmovies, there’s a good reason this beer is called Shemps.
The term is a reference to lateThree Stoogesactor Shemp Howard, who died in 1955 while the Stooges still owed Columbia Pictures four more short films. They replaced him with the actor’s stand-in, Joe Palma. The term “Fake Shemps” was coined by director Sam Raimi on the firstEvil Dead movie, since actors weren’t always available for the low-budget production. This lead to the director enlisting a number of different people, 18 in total, including the director’s brothers Ivan Raimi and Ted Raimi, to fill in as monsters and other characters, who would all be credited as a “Fake Shemp.”

The upcoming season also finds Ash discovering hislong lost daughter, Brandy Barr, played by newcomer Arielle Carver-O’Neill (House Husbands,Suburbs,Conspiracy 365). The third season finds Ash’s status in Elk Grove, Michigan has changed from murderous urban legend to humanity-saving hometown hero. When Kelly witnesses a televised massacre with Ruby’s fingerprints all over it, she returns with a new friend to warn Ash and Pablo that evil isn’t done with them. The cast also includes Jill Marie Jones as Amanda Fisher and Mimi Rogers as Suzy Maxwell. Sam Raimi co-created the series with Ivan Raimi and Tom Spezialy, who executive produce with Bruce Campbell and Rob Tapert.
We reported in October that, during a convention appearance, series starBruce Campbell called out illegal downloadersof his show, although it remains to be seen if that will have any impact on how much the show is downloaded by online pirates.
