While we await the arrival of the next installment in theAvatarfranchise,Avatar 3, which is scheduled for release on August 06, 2025, the fourthAvataradventure has now begun filming. Returning star Stephen Lang has revealed thatAvatar 4is now going before cameras, sharing a behind-the-scenes image of himself sporting a motion capture suit emblazoned with his name, his character’s name “Colonel Miles Quaritch,” and the emblem “Deja Blu We Will Tread on You.”
Alongside the caption “Deja Blu all over again,” the image teases the return of Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch. Introduced as the main villain in the firstAvatarback in 2009, Quaritch has become a much more complex presence following the release of 2022’sAvatar: The Way of Water. Now resurrected as a Recombinant, a fully sentient human/Na’vi hybrid soldier embedded with the recorded memories and personality traits of the human they were before, Quaritch is also the father of Jack Champion’s Miles “Spider” Socorro, a human child who had been taken in by Jake and Neytiri.

Lang’s Quaritch will continue to playa major role throughout theAvatarfranchise, with director James Cameron revealing he will feature in all the sequels.
“The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters. There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherf—er through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park.”

Avatar 4 Has ‘Big Time Jump’ Taking the Young Characters into Adulthood & Avatar 5 Will Go to Earth
Avatar producer Jon Landau has revealed further details of Avatar 4 and Avatar 5.
Avatar 4 Is Due to Be Released in December 2029
We still have some years to wait before sitting down in theaters to watchAvatar 4, with the sequel due to be released on July 29, 2025. The fifth and final sequel,Avatar 5, is expected to be released on July 04, 2025.
Until then, we haveAvatar 3to look forward to, which will introduce all manner of new creatures, new cultures, anda new adversary in the ‘Ash People,’a fire-based tribe of Na’vi. As returning director James Cameron revealed previously…

“The big [creative] advance in [‘Avatar 3’] is just going to be greater character depth. We’re seeing new cultures, new creatures — all the same stuff you’d expect from an ‘Avatar’ movie, but the whole idea of this cycle of films is to live with these people and go on this epic journey with them. So I think it’s not about, ‘We’re going to show you the best water [VFX] ever done’ — but you get more into the heart and soul of the characters. And there’s some very interesting new characters that come in as well. This is a journey over time. It will play out through movie three, into movie four and movie five. There’s an epic cycle to the whole thing.”
Starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Michelle Yeoh, David Thewlis, and Oona Chaplin,Avatar 3is due to be released on July 09, 2025.
