If you’re planning to check out theInfinity WarMarvel Comics, a six-issue run that was published back in 1992, to prepare forAvengers 3hitting the big screen, it may not do you much good. In a recent interview, Mark Ruffalo teased that this story told in the upcoming movie is quite different from the comic book version. While the actor didn’t offer any specifics about how the movie differs from the comic, it seems there will be many changes fans will need to prepare for.
“And it’s so different from thecomic books. There’s elements that are clearly the same, but when you really start to get into the story, everything changes. I did…Planet Hulkwas a big influence forThor 3, and the idea, the inkling ofWorld War Hulkstarts to… I read (that) way before doing this, and there’s some interesting stuff in there, but honestly nothing so far directly related to this. … (Infinity Gauntlet) is informative as well, but then again, it just gets so off of that topic that it starts to become a little confusing, where you’re like ‘Why isn’t this in there? Why are we doing this?'”
Many fans expectednumerous changesto be made in theInfinity Warmovie, largely because several of the characters that play integral roles were not available to Marvel Studios. The Fantastic Four play important roles in theInfinity Warcomics, but they were not available for Marvel Studios to use when filming was under way. While Disney has purchased 20th Century Fox, bringing theFantastic Four and X-Menfranchises under the same roof, that won’t happen on the big screen for quite some time, with the merger not expected to be officially approved until sometime in 2019. Chadwick Boseman also tried to explain the scope ofInfinity War, but it was hard for him to do so.
“It’s different in this one, I don’t know how to explain it. It’s just because we’re in so many different places. It actually takes away from what is actually happening in front of you I think, in this case.”
With a month and a half left untilAvengers: Infinity Warhits theaters, it remains to be seen how much more footage will be unveiled. Fans have already been treated to anew TV spoton Monday, with a behind-the-scenes video surfacing today. There has also been speculation that tickets toAvengers: Infinity Warwill go on sale this coming Friday, but that has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios. Coming into 2018,Avengers: Infinity Warwas named as themost-anticipated moviein two separate polls, one by Fandango and the other by IMDb, with many wondering if this could be the first time in four years that a non-Star Warsmovie takes the top spot at the box office.
