Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans want Marvel Cinematic Universe fans to go seeAvengers: Endgameagain. The epic movie is being re-released this weekend with some bonus material in an effort to earn some more money at the box office. As of this writing,Endgameis at $2.75 billion and is the second highest grossing movie of all time. James Cameron’sAvataris number one with $2.78 billion and it’s beginning to look like Marvel Studios may be able to steal the throne with this new re-release strategy.

Captain America actor Chris Evanssimply retweeted the studio’s post announcing theAvengers: Endgamere-release with an emoji finger pointing to the original message. MCU fans have been waiting to see whereEndgameends up when the initial box office run is over for weeks now. As for Robert Downey Jr., he took a much different route with his message, adding some trademark sarcasm into the mix. RDJ had this to say.

“Get anew re-releaseon life and makeEndgame#1… c’mon, there’s ‘new stuff’ and everything…”

The “new stuff” that Robert Downey Jr. is referring to isn’t a whole lot. There’s a message from co-director Anthony Russo, a deleted scene, a Stan Lee tribute, and a promo forSpider-Man: Far From Home. It’s curious to see Marvel Studios go this route whenFar From Homealone might have brought fans back into theaters for anEndgamerefresher course. The re-release is offering something new and it might end up being just what the movie needs to mowAvatardown to number two. Regardless, MCU fans, for the most part, have been very happy withEndgameand its unexpected twists and turns.

As far as the original theatrical release ofAvatar,Avengers: Endgamehasactually beaten it by a very narrow margin. When James Cameron’s opus ended, it had earned $2,749,064,328. In the same amount of time,Endgamehas done $2,751,379,067. Fox ended up re-releasingAvatar, which is where it’s extra $38 million comes from and what Marvel Studios is trying to do with the latest MCU installment. It’s been a pretty crazy box office roller coaster for the movie after it came out with guns blazing for the first three weekends. There was a significant drop off in the weeks afterwards.

This weekend’s box office battle should be very interesting. Last weekend was the first timeAvengers: Endgamewas not in the top ten. With that being said, the upcoming release ofSpider-Man: Far From Homenext Tuesday and the re-release dropping this weekend, the movie might end up with a significant boost, bringing it closer toAvatar’s record.
