Nickelodeon is bringing one of the most annoying songs ever for many parents to the small screen, as the network has put aBaby Sharkanimated series into production. The show will be directly based on the popular viral video by Pinkfong, which has become a massive online sensation. As of now, there aren’t many details on the upcoming series, such as how many episodes will be included or when the show may possibly premiere. What is known is that the series is definitely a go, and the company behind Pinkfong, SmartStudy, will also be involved. More than likely, the infamous song itself will also be featured in every episode, so it looks like parents may not be through hearing the never-ending tune just yet.
Nickelodeon Animationexecutive vice president Ramsey Naito confirmed the show’s development, commenting on its production in a statement. “Baby Sharkhas captured the imagination of millions of fans around the world, so it’s no surprise it’s one of the top 10 most-viewed videos on YouTube ever,” Naito says. He adds: “At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world ofBaby Sharkand follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon.” Indeed, watching the video does suggest that it’s a perfect fit for Nickelodeon, and that it’s nearing 3 billion views on YouTube shows how the series got its greenlight.
Baby Sharkisn’t the firstviral sensationto make it into other media. The internet hoax known as the “MOMO Challenge,” which depicted a horrifying bird sculpture challenging children to harm themselves in purported viral videos, is currently being made into a movie. Considering how rapidly the faux story spread, it seems the feeling is the MOMO creature would make for an excellent movie villain. TheSlender Mancreepypasta story has also been previously made into a movie after becoming widely known across the internet.Baby Sharkgetting the greenlight at Nickelodeon now proves that it’s not just internet boogeymen coming to the big (or small) screen.
