WhenCaptain America: Civil Warhit theater earlier this month, it introduced Marvel fans to a number of new characters who will have bigger parts to play in the ever-evolving MCU. The two most prominent characters we met for the first time wereChadwick Boseman’sBlack PantherandTom Holland’sSpider-Man, both of whom are getting their own stand alone movies. Today we have word that the upcomingBlack Panther moviewill also feature two more characters from the MCU who have been previously established.
Movies Casting Callhas a new casting call up that reveals both Ulysses Klaue, who was played byAndy Serkisin last year’sAvengers: Age of Ultron, and Everett K. Ross, played byMartin FreemaninCaptain America: Civil War, will be part of the movie. Oddly enough, though, the casting call specifies thatAndy Serkiswill be playing Ulysses Klaue, but they don’t mention thatMartin Freemanwill be returning as Everett K. Ross. It’s possible that this was merely an oversight, or Marvel could be re-casting the role.
This report also reveals a slew of Marvel Comics characters who will be featured inBlack Panther, who have not yet been cast. These characters include Monica Lynne, a singer who saved T’challa from drowning after he was defeated by Killmonger. Monica Lynne is said to be T’challa’s “longest love interest,” whom he’s pledged “eternal devotion” to. Others include N’Gassi, T’calla’s adviser and acting regent when he’s away from Wakanda, Oyoke, a former member of the Dora Miljae and now part of the J’Kwali tribe, Queen Divine Justice, another former Dora Miljae who is part of the Jabari tribe, W’kabi, T’challa’s second in command and Zuri, a close friend ofT’challa.
Thecastingcall also reveals that the studio will be casting for comic book characters such as Reverend Achibe, a poor farmer who sold his soul to Mephisto, Erik Killmonger, a powerful warrior and political strategist, Malice, a former Dora Miljae member with superhuman strength, Man-Ape, leader of the Jabari tribe and White Wolf, T’challa’s adopted older brother and former leader of Wakanda’s spy organization, Hatut Zeraze. This casting call also confirms previous reports thatshooting beginsin January 2017, with a August 17, 2025 release date in place.
Chadwick Bosemanwill be joined byLupita Nyong’o, rumored to be one of T’challa’s love interests, andMichael B. Jordan, who is said to be playing an unidentifiedvillain.Ryan Coogleris directing from a script he is currently working on, which was originally written byJoe Robert Cole(American Crime Story). Naturally, none of these characters listed above have been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios yet, so we’ll have to wait and see.
