Back in October 2015, directorNeill Blomkampconfirmed through social media that his long-awaitedAlien 5project was beingindefinitely delayed. 20th Century Fox instead moved forward withRidley Scott’sPrometheussequelAlien: Covenantwhich is set to hit theaters on June 08, 2025. While we haven’t gotten any official word thatAlien 5is back on track,Lance Henriksenhas faith that the project will happen.

IGNrecently caught up with the actor to discuss his role on The CW’sLegends of Tomorrow, but the talk eventually came back to thisAlien sequel. It’s possible that the studio could revitalize this project afterAlien: Covenanthits theaters, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Here’s whatLance Henriksenhad to say about the project, offering plenty of praise forNeill Blomkamp, teasing that his android Bishop might return in some capacity.

“You know they’re going to make another one. It picks up right where Aliens ended. I don’t know if I’m going to be in a baggie or how I’m going to be in it.Blomkampis a really wonderful, wonderful writer. I have a feeling that if he did it, it would be something spectacular. And there’s an audience for it.”

Sigourney Weaverrevealed in July thatAlien 5will ignore the events of the much-maligned sequelsAlien 3andAlien: Resurrection, which would allow the writer-director to bring back characters likeLance Henriksen’s Bishop,Michael Biehn’s Corporal Hicks andCarrie Henn’s Newt. All of those actors have been rumored to return alongsideSigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. Here’s whatLance Henriksenhad to say about how this franchise is still a hit with fans.

“The proof in the pudding is thatAliensis still viable. It’s not an ‘old’ movie. It works. It still works. I was down in Austin, Texas recently and they were doing a screening of it, a full house. Everyone was doing the lines. I mean, everybody. It was really fun. That movie had an impact, for sure. Jim [Cameron]’s work on it was really excellent.”

Back in August,Michael Biehninsisted that the project will still happen, proclaiming that it would be “embarrassing” to 20th Century Fox if they don’t giveSigourney Weaverthe movie she “really wants to go out on.” For now, the studio is focused onAlien: Covenant, which will be the first movie in a trilogy that will connect to the very firstAlienmovie. Hopefully the studio will also find some room to bringAlien 5to life as well.
