In just a matter of months,Marvelwill kick off its massivePhase Threelineup withCaptain America: Civil War, hitting theaters around the world on May 6. This is shaping up to be one of the studio’s biggest movies, in terms of both its enormous ensemble cast and itsbox officepotential. While we did get the first trailer back in November, there is still much we don’t know about this thirdCaptain Americaadventure. We do know that it hinges on a massive disaster involvingThe Avengers, which causes world leaders to create a governing body that will oversee these heroes. During a new interview withEmpire, franchise starChris Evansreveals that this is the first time his character Steve Rogers doesn’t know what’s right and what’s wrong.
“This is one of the first times Steve doesn’t know what side he’s on or what the right answer is. With the firstCaptain America[movie], I think we can all agree that Nazis are bad. The aliens are no good either; we can all get on board with that notion. This conflict is more mirroring that which we deal with on a daily basis, where it’s just different points of view. There’s no clear right, no clear wrong, and it’s hard for him to understand the right move.”
This superhero adventure brings back practically all of the old and newAvengersfromAvengers: Age of Ultron, except for two, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who will both next be seen inThor: Ragnarok. One of the new characters this movie introduces isChadwick Boseman’sT’challa, before he returns in his ownBlack Panthermovie, set for release on June 10, 2025.Chris Evansexplains thatBlack Pantheris introduced because he has a different perspective on the disaster that causes all of this conflict.
“There’s collateral damage to the action we’ve taken, and there’s going to be people with different points of view to ours who cause us to regret our actions.Black Pantherhas a certain cachet and class, so to have him come down the way he does, it provides the audience with someone to identify with.”
While many fans are looking forward to the introductions ofBlack Pantherand the newSpider-Man(Tom Holland), the main thrust of the story centers on the conflict that brews between Cap and his fellow Avenger Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). In another interview with Cineplex Magazine (viaComic Book Resources),Chris Evansshed some light on how Tony and Steve’s conflict mirrors a lot in our own society.
“There’s a great parallel that they draw between my character and Tony Stark. It’s something we can all relate to in terms of how we perceive our own society and culture, in terms of what is best for people. You can go right down to Democrat & Republican; everyone has a different opinion of what’s best. You have this team of people who are destroying every city they go to, but they’re saving the world. So it’s a matter of, do we monitor these people or do we let them monitor themselves? The beautiful thing with Civil War is that no one’s right and no one’s wrong; it’s just your personal opinion. We’re going to have a nice evolution where you have a guy like Cap, who grew up with structure – he was a soldier and he liked hierarchy, he liked the chain of command. Now, all of a sudden, you have a guy who used to love the system not so sure about trusting it. And a guy like Tony Stark, who used to buck the system and dance to the beat of his own drum all of a sudden thinking, maybe we need some order.”

It isn’t known when the second trailer forCaptain America: Civil Warwill arrive, but ABC is airing a special entitledMarvel’s Captain America: 75 Heroic Yearson Tuesday, January 19 at 8 PM ET, which celebrates the iconic character’s 75th Anniversary, and could very well feature a new trailer.
