WhenDaredevil: Born Againwas first announced to be in development for Disney+, fans were elated that Netflix’s incredibly popular iteration of the character would live on despite its cancellation on the platform shortly after Season 3 was released. Before its massive shift in creative direction and rewrites, the intent forBorn Againalways seemed to be that it would consist of 18 episodes, even if it was only one season, before a change in showrunners and writers split it in two. The future of the series has been somewhat uncertain ever since, but now the star of the series has provided some clarification on Daredevil’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The websiteComicBookMoviemanaged to get a brief interview withDaredevilactor Charlie Cox, who was making an appearance at the “For the Love of Fantasy” event in London, England. The exchange between the outlet and the actor was incredibly quick; Cox only had time to say he’s excited for fans to seeseason 2 ofBorn Again, promising that it’s “going to be really good.” When asked directly if Season 2 would be the end of Daredevil’s time in the MCU, Cox replied with a simple “No, I do not believe so.” Whether that means we get a third season or aDaredevilfeature film remains to be seen.

While Cox offered a short response, it still speaks volumes about the actor’s confidence in his place in the MCU. Much of the conversation surrounding Daredevil in the MCU comes from fans who want the character to team up with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, a fellow street-level hero who has had plenty of run-ins and partnerships with the Man Without Fear in the comic books. Cox made his official MCU debut inSpider-Man: No Way Home, albeit as the Lawyer Matt Murdock and not his vigilante alter ego.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2 isn’t the End for Matt Murdock
Interestingly, another street-level Marvel character who made their debut on theDaredevilNetflix series will be appearing in the upcomingSpider-Man: Brand New Day. As reported in June,Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, will make an appearance in the upcoming film, although the extent of his role remains unknown. The Punisher’s battle van was recently spotted on set during the production of the movie, indicating that the character will be featured in at least one major action sequence.
Disappointingly, there’s been no indication that Cox’s Daredevil will be inBrand New Day, meaning that any sort of team-up between him and Spider-Man might still be a ways away. Still, Cox’s (mostly) definitive answer thatBorn AgainSeason 2 wouldn’t be the end of his character’s tenure in the MCU gives fans confidence that it could still happen. While Daredevil might not be participating in thenextAvengersfilm(as far as we know), we can at least take heart that a third season ofDaredevil: Born Againcould be on the table, or even an entirely different series that features the character.
