Chris Prattis returning to his roots in a new dark comedy series that is currently in development atAmazonfrom John Owen Lowe, the creator of the Netflix seriesUnstable. Before his rise to stardom in 2014 withGuardians of the Galaxy, Pratt was best known for his role as Andy Dwyer in the NBC sitcomParks and Recreation, with the actor becoming well-regarded in the series for his comedic timing and improvisation. Now, Pratt will executive producethe new Prime Video series, titledGod’s Country. Interestingly, it seems that the actor’s role in the project will be entirely behind the scenes.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline,God’s Countryis a “darkly satirical tale of family and greed, with Shakespearean roots.” The series will follow a ruthless real estate tycoon whose ambitions of gentrifying the heart of America end up ultimately threatening his empire and involving his family in the “violent past of a lakeside town.” While the premise of the series sounds ominous, the series is being describedas a “dark” comedy.

Chris Pratt has been showing off a “rough” appearance in the name of his returning Prime Video action series.

Besides co-creating and executive producingUnstable(which wascanceled by the streamer after two seasons), John Owen Lowe is also known for his writing on the Fox series9-1-1: Lone Star. Lowe’s television credits also involve his father, Rob Lowe, with whom Pratt worked alongside inParks and Recreation. Adam Londy will also be executive producing the series, though not much else is known about the series, given that the exclusive report mentioned nothing about the possible cast for the show or a production start date.

Chris Pratt is Expanding His Producing Credits With ‘God’s Country’

This won’t be Chris Pratt’s first executive producing credit, as the actor has also been credited as executive producer onanother Prime Video series,The Terminal List, which Pratt also stars in. Moreover, he will also have producing and acting credits in the upcoming Skydance/Apple TV+ movieWay of the Warrior Kid.Along with his work on theforthcoming blockbusterMercy, Pratt is shaping up to have an incredibly busy next few years with all of these film and television projects.

It will be interesting to see how much Pratt will be involved withGod’s Countryin terms of creative capacity. While there is no mention of Pratt also being involved in an acting capacity in Deadline’s report, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t later be revealed as being a part of the cast down the line. At this point, it’s too early in development to say anything certain about the cast ofGod’s Country.

As Chris Pratt continues to expand his resume to include involvement in projects in a behind-the-scenes capacity, it will be interesting to see what other stories the actor decides to help bring to life in a producing position. Moreover, seeing Pratt now work with the son ofhisParks and Recreationco-starfurther cements the enduring legacy of the show and the long-lasting relationships that the cast built with one another. At the time of this writing, there is no set release date or production start date forGod’s Country, which is seemingly still very early in development.
