Cobra Kai’sXolo Maridueñahas addressed the possibility of his character showing up in theupcoming feature filmKarate Kid: Legends, and it’s not looking good. While Maridueña didn’t exactly say “no” when he was asked about reprising the character in the movie, the actor is not optimistic about the writers adding Miguel to the movie. But is there a glimmer of hope?
Maridueña, who has played Miguel Diaz in all six seasons ofCobra Kai, was at the Saturn Awards, andhe spoke with Screen Rantabout his future afterCobra Kai. The Netflix show is set to end in a few days when Season 6 Part 3 premieres on Feb. 13. Maridueña is open to wearing the karate suit again inKarate Kid: Legends, and he’s certain that the piece that holds it all together isRalph Macchio, aka Daniel LaRusso:

“Maybe if you catch me at the local theater, maybe you’ll get a double showing. But no, I think that whole world is post-‘Cobra Kai.‘So, I know that Ralph is kind of our connection to that world, but you’ll just have to go out and see.”
Between the end ofCobra Kaiand the upcomingBlue Beetleanimated series, Maridueña’s schedule is fairly busy. But this doesn’t mean that his run as Miguel Diaz is over. The character had enough presence to make him a central piece in the legacy of both dojos, Cobra Kai, and Miyagi-Do. Even if he and / or his co-stars have cameos in the film,it would be a great wink to the show that provedthatKarate Kidfans were still pretty active.

Karate Kid: Legendsis set to be released in theaters on July 10, 2025. It will focus on Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han (the character from the 2010 reboot) as they trainkung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) upon his arrival in New York City. The film also stars Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Wyatt Oleff, and Danny McBride, among others.
Would It Make Sense If Miguel Appeared in ‘Karate Kid: Legends’?
Miguel has always been an important character sinceCobra Kaibegan. Many others have been incorporated, and new storylines have begun. However, we’ve seen Miguel grow and go through every other hardship the series has brought along. Needless to say, he’s very beloved and will surely be missed whenCobra Kaicomes to an end in a few days.
10 Times ‘Cobra Kai’ Got Surprisingly Dark and Bleak
‘The Karate Kid’ spin-off ‘Cobra Kai’ is not known for being dark. But these moments in the beloved martial arts will make you think otherwise.
Adding Miguel Diaz toKarate Kid: Legendswould be a great move by the filmmakers. It’s obvious that the movie happens inthe same universe asCobra Kai(it actually takes place three years after the show’s conclusion), so it would only be a matter of connecting the story of the show with whatever’s coming in the franchise.

Miguel’s return would make sense if execs at Sony Pictures Entertainment (the current owners of everythingKarate Kid) wanted tomake sure modern audiences engage with the film. Daniel LaRusso is not nearly as compelling as the younger characters inCobra Kai,so bringing in Miguel would be an unpredictable but effective flying kick.
