PerDeadline, Conan O’Brien has officially been chosen to host the 97th Annual Academy Awards on July 12, 2025. The news was made official by the Academy across their social media, with Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Janet Yang announcing it today. For those keeping score, this will be O’Briens first time hosting Hollywood’s biggest night. In a statement, Kramer and Yang said:
“We are thrilled and honored to have the incomparable Conan O’Brien host the Oscars this year. He is the perfect person to help lead our global celebration of film with his brilliant humor, his love of movies, and his live TV expertise. His remarkable ability to connect with audiences will bring viewers together to do what the Oscars do best–honor the spectacular films and filmmakers of this year.”
O’Brien had a bit of fun with the news in his own statement, with the Emmy Award-winning comedian saying,“America demanded it and now it’s happening: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. In other news, I’m hosting the Oscars.“Honestly, this is one of the best choices the Academy has made in terms of hosting duties because O’Brien has been an industry staple for years and is one of the funniest people in the business. His brand of humor should fit in nicely as he can be slyly offensive but also universally hilarious without causing a stir.
