Creature Commandoswill be returning for a second season, featuring an all-new group of monster-like villains. However, James Gunn, who created the animated series and serves as the co-CEO of DC Studios, has now revealed thecritically-acclaimed Season 1nearly included an entirely different cast of characters for the titular team. Several names will pop out for diehard fans of the source material, as well as potentially tease future members of theCreature Commandos.

While replying to a fan onThreads, Gunn revealed that several, more familiar creature-like villains from the DC canon nearly formed part of Task Force M inCreature Commandos. He named four different characters —Wolfpack, Man-Bat, Vincent Velcoro and Solomon Grundy— all of which have clear resemblances to members of the supervillain group. Wolfpack and Man-Bat were considered to take over Weasel’s spot on the team, while Gunn reveals that the vampiric Vincent Velcoro was almost featured before eventually landing on Dr. Phosphorous. Solomon Grundy, arguably the most famous and recognizable name on the aforementioned list, was also in the mix before Gunn settled on Frankenstein.

Sinestro in the Green Lantern movie.

“I definitely considered Wolfpack, and, especially, Man-Bat (one of my faves). But I knew I wanted to tell Weasel’s story so it felt like too many rabid and fuzzy characters. I considered Vincent Velcoro but wanted to choose a ‘creature’ far outside the usual roster from another part of DC - so I went with Dr. Phosphorous instead. I also considered Solomon Grundy, another favorite, but was pretty set on Frankenstein.”

Although it would have been exciting to see those names inCreature Commandos, especially Man-Bat and Solomon Grundy, Gunn arguably made the right choice using lesser-known villains from the DC canon. The first project from the rebooted DCU,Creature Commandosstarted off the cinematic universe strongby using fresh new faces. However, since they were heavily considered for the animated series, fans should not be shocked to learn that one of, if not all, of those cut characters will make their way into the DCU in other future projects.
