Crypt Keeper Not Returning in Tales from the Crypt Reboot?

Most fans would argue no. But, sadly, TNT, who is moving forward with a reboot of the series, may not have a choice in the matter. What is keeping everyone’s favoritestorytellingghoul from returning to the small screen?

Apparently, HBO still owns the rights to the character, which TNT has not obtained. Sources close toBloody Disgustingsay that’s probably not going to change, either.John Kassiris the voice behind the Crypt Keeper, and he made his own plea to HBO this week on hisTwitteraccount. Here’s what he had to say.

“I’ll go on record, Crypt Keeper as we know him is more popular than ever & it’d be a sham/shame not to have him host the show!!!!!”

TNT has not yet confirmed that the Crypt Keeper will be making his triumphant return, but it would have likely been announced in the official PR from last week if it were happening. The announcement didn’t mention the Crypt Keeper at all. Who will replace the iconic host, then?

Bloody Disgustingsays it will be an old man in a hood, holding a cane. He will keep warm by a fireplace as he tells each story continued in the new episodes. This aspect of the series will be more true to the original EC comic upon which the property is based. The original Crypt Keeper was created specifically for the HBO version of the series.

The horror site goes onto reveal that the original plan for the Tales from the Crypt reboot would see something more attuned toAmerican Horror Story, with thirteen episodes telling one story throughout the season. There will be no weekly anthology stories, and the first season has nothing to do with the EC comic. They also claim that the show is from the writers behind Netflix’sHemlock Grove. The first episodes will reportedly revolve around a New Orleans Voodoo curse.

The Hollywood Reporterrevealed earlier this week that TNT is planning on launching a two-hour horror block, curated byM. Night Shyamalan, that will be led by this new version of Tales from the Crypt, which Shyamalan is producing. TNT president Kevin Reilly revealed during the network’s TCA panel this past week, that this new version ofTales from the Cryptwill be an hourlong show, with the rest of the two-hour block devoted to both long-form and short-form genre storytelling. The network president said that they hopeTales from the Cryptwill serve as an “umbrella” for several different shows throughout many genres. What do you think about all of this?
