Danny DeVitowould be all-in to reprise hisBatman Returnsrole as Oswald Cobblepot aka Penguin, and wouldn’t mind teaming up withArnold Schwarzenegger’s Mr Freeze to take on Michael Keaton’s Batman. Following their hilarious Oscars moment last month, there has been endless talk of whether it would be possible for any of the three actors to reprise their former comic book roles, with DeVito’s semi-joking comments being just the latest.

Batman Returns

Batman Returns sees the return of Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne after his victory over the Joker. This time, the Dark Knight faces a new threat in the form of The Penguin, an outcast who wants revenge on Gotham City. Featuring Danny DeVito as Oswald Cobblepot, Michelle Pfeiffer as Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman, and Christopher Walken as Max Schreck, Batman Returns is Tim Burton’s second and final movie based on the iconic DC comics character.

Although Tim Burton’s Batman movies have always been seen as the most iconic of the big screen versions of the Dark Knight,Batman & Robin, which included Schwarzenegger’s cool villain, is very much at the other end of the scale when it comes to Batman popularity stakes. However, there is an endless amount of love out there for Schwarzenegger, enough to make everyone forget about the wrongs of that particular entry in the Batman saga for his sake.

Speaking toPEOPLE, DeVito once again cheekily stirred the pot about potentially stepping back into the world of Batman, as unlikely as that for many reasons – not least that Penguin died at the end ofBatman Returns. When asked if he would potentially unite with Arnie’s Mr Freeze on-screen, DeVito said:

“Oh, I don’t know. I don’t think it’s a bad idea because you got Keaton, you got [Schwarzenegger], you got DeVito. We could do those same parts. Yeah, why not? Go tell [co-chair and CEO of Warner Bros] Pam Abdi to do that. And [MGM chairman] Mike DeLuca.”

Of course, there is more than a little mirth in DeVito’s words, and although it would certainly be a huge crowd-pleaser, we probably have more of a chance ofGeorge Clooney being cast as BatmaninThe Brave and the Boldas we do seeing these three classic stars of the franchise appearing in a Batman movie together.

Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Reunite For a New Movie

Although Batman dreams may be pie in the sky, there is nothing quite so far-fetched about the fact thatDeVito and Schwarzenegger are determined to finally make another movietogether after many years of trying. Having starred inTwinsandJuniortogether, as well as making several other TV and guest appearances alongside each other, it seemed a few years ago that their 1988 hitTwinswould be getting a belated sequel entitledTriplets. However, following delays due to the Covid pandemic, and then the passing of director Ivan Reitman (who was to return to helm the sequel), the film became just another “what might have been.”

Michael Keaton shared his thoughts on how he could easily handle Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Batman villains.

However, since their appearance together at this year’s Academy Awards,DeVito has teased their new project, which he said is coming very soon. TheIt’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiastar said previously:

“We’re working on something, a project that we’re going to do together, another movie. Arnold and I are good buddies. We met way before Twins, years ago. We get along really well. We missed Twins 2 because he became governor – which, he should have done Twins 2 instead of becoming governor!”
