Earlier this month, it was announced that 20th Century Fox’sDeadpoolwill debut on Blu-ray and DVD May 10, although it won’t be available on laserdisc or VHS formats just yet. One format that hasn’t been mentioned is a Digital HD release, which many studios use to release their movies a few weeks earlier than the traditional route. As it turns out,Deadpoolwill be no different, with starRyan Reynoldsannouncing on his Twitter page that the Digital HD version ofDeadpoolis coming earlier than expected, and will be here next week, on Tuesday, April 26.
It isn’t known which special features will be included on the Digital HD release. But we learned earlier this week what will be included on theBlu-rayrelease. TheDeadpoolextras includeDeleted/Extended sceneswith optional commentary from directorTim Miller, a Gag Reel, and the featurette From Comics to Screen…to Screen, which shows the arduous process of bringing this beloved comic book character to life…Twice! There will also beDeadpool’s Fun Sack, Audio Commentary withRyan Reynoldsand writersRhett ReeseandPaul Wernick, plus a number of photo galleries.
Deadpoolhas taken in $360.3 million domestically and $759.4 million worldwide, from just a $58 million budget. It has shattered box office records left and right, earning the biggest opening weekend ever for anR-rated movie, en route to beatingThe Matrix Reloadedas the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time. Its debut in February was also the biggest ever for 20th Century Fox, andDeadpoolalso has the distinction of being the highest-grossing movie in the entireX-Menfranchise.
Given all ofDeadpool’s success, the inevitable sequel is currently in the works, withRhett ReeseandPaul Wernickworking on the script. DirectorTim Millerand starRyan Reynoldsare returning as well, but none of the other cast members such asMorena Baccarin,Gina Carano,Ed Skrein,T.J. MillerandBrianna Hildebrandhave been confirmed to return quite yet. 20th Century Fox hasn’t set an official release date for the sequel at this time, so stay tuned for more details.
