WhileChappiewill surely break new ground as one of the few original sci-fi releases of 2015, directorNeill Blomkamp, known for genre favoritesDistrict 9andElysium, was actually attempting to bring a more familiar franchise back to the big screen. It appears that he was working on a true sequel to the 1986 releaseAliens, though in an unofficial capacity. He has released some of the concept art, though with no real context to why or what he was truly planning.

As everyone knowns, directorRidley Scottreturned to his roots by directing theAlienprequelPrometheus, which came after two less than well receivedAlien Vs. Predatormovies. It’s possible that 20th Century Fox was also planning a true sequel, which is hinted at in art that featuresSigourney Weaveras Ripley andMichael Biehnas a badly scarred Hicks. We also get to see the Alien Queen on the loose, and the Engineer’s ship sitting inside Weyland Corp. There is also a very intriguing design which depicts Ripley in some sort ofAliendisguise.

It appearsNeill Blomkampwas working on these drawings as more or less a leisure activity. Perhaps he was set to pitch this sequel idea to Fox sometime in the near future? According to his own captions, he has abandoned the idea, at least for now. In his latest tweets, he explains that this art had nothing to do with the studio, and that he simply wanted to turn his attentions to something else. Perhaps he will offer more information in the near future. For now, take a look at the cool art. Do any of you want to see this sequel? Or are you content withPrometheusand its upcoming sequel?

Was working on this. Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph
