Though its theatrical run was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020,The Invisible Manstill managed to take in an impressive $144.5 million dollars at the box office against a budget of just $7 million, and while it’s been four years since its release, starElisabeth Mosssays that a sequel is closer than ever. Moss starred alongside Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Harriet Dyer, and Aldis Hodge in the film, which was based on the 1897 novel by H.G. Wells, and served as somewhat of a reboot of the 1933 movie of the same name. Directed by Leigh Whannell,The Invisible Manhas gone on to be regarded by fans and critics as one of the best science fiction horror films in recent memory.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on theHappy Sad Confused Podcast, Moss touched on a number of topics, including her upcoming roles in the thriller movie,Shell, and the FX limited thriller series,The Veil. As the conversation turned toThe Invisible Man, Horowitz asked Moss what the status was of a sequel. Moss laughed, knowing she couldn’t say too much, replying, “Here is me going to try and craft a response.”

“We are, I would say – and by we, I mean Blumhouse and my production company [Love & Squalor Pictures] – we are closer than we have ever been to cracking it. And I feel very good about it. We are very much intent on continuing that story, for sure.”

Produced by Blumhouse and distributed by Universal Pictures,The Invisible Manfocused on Moss' character of Cecilia Kass as she escapes an abusive relationship, only to be stalked by her ex (Jackson-Cohen), who has perfected the art of invisibility by way of a high-tech suit. The film underwent several starts and stops, including one in 2016 when it was thought to be a larger piece of the puzzleto Universal’s now defunct Dark Universe. Director Leigh Whannell came on board in 2019, and while Universal hasn’t specifically said that they’re trying to revive their plans for a shared universe, it should be noted that Whannell is also directingWolf Man, which is set to release in 2025.

Elisabeth Moss Reveals if She’ll Be in Wolf Man

While it was originally planned to star Ryan Gosling, theBarbieactordropped out ofWolf Manin late 2023, and Christopher Abbot was brought on to star as the titular character. With filming currently underway on the project, Elisabeth Moss has revealed if she’ll make an appearance in the movie. When asked by Horowitz, she responded:

“I wish… I would love that. I think that’s the idea for Universal in the future ifWolf Mangoes well, is to revive that universe, but no, unfortunately I have not been asked to be inWolf Man[…] but if we can get this sequel happening then maybe we can get a universe started!”

Elisabeth Moss has been at the forefront of Hollywood trends since the mid 2000s, slowly becoming the face of so-called Elevated Horror movies.

Still, her answer gives hope to monster fans everywhere that if Universal can get their act together, perhaps they’ll see more of their belovedclassic monsters come to lifein a shared universe that has been long overdue.
