With so manySpider-Manmovies andmultiple iterations of Peter Parker, viewers have been arguing over who the superior Spider-Man truly is and which film is the best. 10The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (51%)
amazing spider-man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 2has the worst reputation of anySpider-Manmovie. While the movie as a whole may be subpar, the ending is one of the factors that make it known for being a reasonably hard movie to watch.Gwen Stacy’s devastating deathat the film’s conclusion meant acknowledging how Peter’s actions up until that point had reached a difficult crossroads, which does not help the movie.
Without a third film, Peter Parker is left devastated over her death, and it is not until Andrew Garfield appears inSpider-Man: No Way Homethat his counterpart of Peter Parker, is offered a chance at redemption. This film is the third-lowest-grossingSpider-Manfilm, having only taken home $709 million.

9Spider-Man 3 (63%)
Spider-Man 3
Perhaps best remembered for Peter Parker’s dark clothes and awkward strut down the sidewalk,Spider-Man 3does not add much to the trilogy. Peter and MJ’s relationship takes a nosedive, thanks to an alien symbiote giving Peter a bad, bad attitude. Peter also allows Spider-Man’s fame to get to his head, and Mary Jane’s lack of character development through the previous two movies does not get better in this film to justify the issues the couple grows to have.
The villains also do not hold up to the exciting danger that follows the dastardly Green Goblin and Doc Ock, leaving for a reasonably dull conclusion. Despite not performing nearly as well as the other Tobey MaguireSpider-Manfilms on Rotten Tomatoes,Spider-Man 3is the third-highest-grossingSpider-Manmovie, having earned approximately $894.9 million.

8The Amazing Spider-Man (71%)
The Amazing Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield’s first outing as Spider-Man does better than his sequel, but even the first movie is subpar compared to what came before and after. While Peter Parker has a sarcastic and quippy attitude, the movie itself is rather dull, relying on science and a skater-boy backstory to make the film feel different from Tobey Maguire’s counterpart.
MCU: Why It’s Time For Peter Parker to Pass the Torch to Miles Morales
Peter can’t stay forever, but luckily, there’s already a candidate to succeed him as Spider-Man.
Having Peter fall for Gwen Stacy instead of MJ does offer something new to the story, and a lot of people praise Garfield’s performance (especially in the scenes where he’s suited up as Spidey due to his quick-witted nature). Still, Peter’s discovery of his powers and the villains he faces are never quite memorable enough to give the movie as much life as it would need.

7Spider-Man (90%)
Spider-Man
After being bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter Parker’s body chemistry is mutagenically altered in that he can scale walls and ceilings, and he develops a “spider-sense” that warns him of approaching danger. Adopting the name “Spider-Man”, Peter first uses his newfound powers to make money, but after his uncle is murdered at the hands of a criminal Peter failed to stop, he swears to use his powers to fight the evil that killed his uncle.
Tobey Maguire’s firstportrayal of Spider-Manis a solid first movie. Peter Parker is a sweet but shy guy, desperately in love with the girl next door. Bullied and laughed at throughout school, Peter Parker is the perfect example of someone who would understand the value of having powers. His discovery of his capabilities offers insight into how he learns to control himself, while showing how he trains using them to help others.

His origin story — catalyzed by Uncle Ben’s death — plunges Peter into the emotional turmoil that helps anchor the movie in his attempt to live up to Ben’s last piece of iconic advice: “With great power comes great responsibility.” The film’s critical reaction also translated to box office profits as at the time it held the record for the biggest opening weekend ever.
6Spider-Man: Far From Home (90%)
Spider-Man: Far from Home
Spider-Man: Far From Homeis the perfect mix of an action movie and love story, as Peter tries to save the day, handle his continued grief over Tony Stark’s death, and figure out the perfect time to tell MJ that he likes her. The MCU’s broad background certainly plays a role in the movie, as the villains are spurred to a life of evil based on Tony Stark’s behavior toward them. But it is also a highly ambitious film, constantly playing with reality versus fiction, as Mysterio can create fake monsters that have real consequences.
The film’s cliffhanger ending — MCU Peter’s identity getting leaked to the public — leaves viewers desperate for more.Far From Homereceived the silver medal and is the second-highest-grossingSpider-Manmovie, earning approximately $1.132 billion at the box office.

5Spider-Man: Homecoming (92%)
spider-man homecoming
Tom Holland’s first Spider-Man movie is not the first time MCU viewers would have seen him, as the character was already introduced inCaptain America: Civil War. However,Spider-Man: Homecomingbuilds on the charismatic and excited Peter Parker, who is ready to join the Avengers, even if Tony Stark is not allowing him to be involved in large-scale adventures. But that gives him the chance to be the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man viewers know and love. Peter’s wish to prove himself mixes with the desire to solve the mystery of men with dangerous, otherworldly weapons and stop them before they can hurt innocent people. Michael Keaton also shines as Vulture, a villain who happens to be a family man.

4Spider-Man 2 (93%)
Spider-Man 2
Perhaps one of the best examples of a superhero sequel,Spider-Man 2expands on everything the original had to offer while offering a solid new villain (and who can forget the iconic “Pizza time!"). Peter’s relationship with MJ is complicated, and he holds issues with his best friend, Harry, because the young Osborn wants to kill Spider-Man for killing his father. All the while, Peter’s identity crisis and attempt to do everything results in him temporarily losing access to his powers.Spider-Man 2is a massive story of Peter trying to distinguish his identity as Peter and his work as Spider-Man.

Read Our Review
As the highest-grossingSpider-Manmovie with approximately $1.9 billion in revenue,Spider-Man: No Way Homeisan emotional rollercoaster for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. His secret is revealed to the world, Peter faces repercussions of everyone believing he is the villain in Mysterio’s story, and his visit to Doctor Strange only makes everything worse. Peter is constantly dealing with some sort of emotional situation throughout the movie, and he suffers multiple different kinds of loss. ButSpider-Man:No Way Homeis also a big movie for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s counterparts when all three unite.
All three Peter Parkers get a sense of closure or redemption from their respective installments, and it was the type of event that was thrilling to witness for the first time. The ending is also far different from any previous film, as Peter’s decision to save the world means giving up the life he has. With great power … you know the rest.
2Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (96%)
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Following its predecessor’s footsteps, the animated sequel knows it needs to deliver justice to Miles’s role as Spider-Man. Luckily,Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versedoes not disappoint in its animation style, action, or narrative. Viewers get the chance to see lots of different Spider-People from lots of different universes, and they learn how canon events affect each and every masked hero. There’s also a twist at the end that drastically alters the franchise and leads to an exciting third film. The film was a box office hit, and the strong word of mouth made it one of the biggest movies of summer 2023.
Rent on AppleTV, Amazon, GooglePlay, YouTube, Vudu, and coming to Netflix on July 02, 2025.
1Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (97%)
Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
Unlike any otherSpider-Manfilm,Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verseintroduces Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man rather than another origin story for Peter Parker. When Peter Parker dies in battle, Miles Morales, the new spider-bitten kid on the block, steps up to fill his shoes. Luckily, the new hero is not alone. When a portal causes mayhem,Miles is met with various other versions of Spider-Man, including Peter B. Parker and Spider-Gwen, who help teach Miles how best to capture the spirit and fighting style of Spider-Man.
The soundtrack is also filled with hit after hit, making the movie a fan-favorite — even though it’s the lowest-grossingSpider-Manfilm with about $375.5 million (although theMorbiusfilm, which is slighty connected to the franchise, is the lowest grossing). However, the film’s strong word of mouth and critical reaction paid off as it gained a major following, helping build the sequel to a bigger hit and securingSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Versethe Academy Award for Best Animated Film.
