Fantastic Beasts to Feature Younger Versions of Harry Potter Characters?

Earlier this month,Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemstarEddie Redmaynestopped by theMTV Movie Awardsto preview the latest footage from this highly-anticipated adventure. The story is set within the magicalHarry Potteruniverse, albeit several decades before Harry, Ron, Hermione and their friends first set foot in Hogwarts. One of the most exciting aspects of thenewest traileris when a familiar name was dropped, Albus Dumbledore, which had many fans wondering whether or not we’ll see a younger version of the Hogwarts headmaster in this prequel.MTVmanaged to catch up withFantastic BeastsstarDan Foglerat CinemaCon, who teased that the planned sequels may showcase younger versions of some of your favoriteHarry Pottercharacters.

“As the stories go along, you will hear mention of your favorite characters. And you may meet their young counterparts along the way.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themopens in 1926 as Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for aNo-Maj(American for Muggle) named Jacob (Dan Fogler), a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. Given the time frame thatFantastic Beastsis set in, the most logical candidate for a “counterpart” to show up in the sequel is aYoung Dumbledorehimself, but we don’t know for sure.Dan Fogleralso shed some new light on one of the creatures featured in the trailer, the Niffler, which is a good friend ofNewt Scamander.

“The Niffler is one of the cuter, cuddlier creatures in the movie. He’s this fuzzy little guy who has a marsupial pouch. He likes shiny things, and he collects things. He’d take the camera, and stuff it into his pouch and run away.”

Warner Bros. announced in October 2014 that they will release sequels toFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themin 2018 and 2020, but they haven’t confirmed any specific release dates at this time. It also isn’t known if authorJ.K. Rowling, who makes her screenwriting debut onFantastic Beasts, and directorDavid Yates, who directed the last fourHarry Pottermovies, will continue to write and direct these currently untitled follow-ups.Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themis set for release on November 16, so stay tuned for more details and footage from thisHarry Potterprequel.
