Long beforeThe Walking Deadaired the Season 6 finale this spring, we knew that the iconic comic book villainNeganwould be introduced, played byJeffrey Dean Morgan. This villain, who leads a group known as The Saviors, was introduced in the 100th issue of the comics, where he ambushed Rick’s group and killed Glenn (Steven Yeun). And while the ambush played out very similarly in the series, with Negan killing a random member of Rick’s crew, the identity of his victim was not revealed. Today we have our first look at Negan in a new Season 7 photo, along with more details from executive producer/directorGreg Nicotero.

The photo, which comes courtesy ofEntertainment Weekly, will look quite familiar, for those who are caught up with the series.Jeffrey Dean Morganis seen wearing the same iconic outfit from the Season 6 finale, which confirms what we already knew, that the Season 7 premiere will pick up right where the Season 6 finale left off.Greg Nicotero, who direct both the Season 6 finale and the upcoming Season 7 premiere, confirmed to EW that Negan’s victim will be revealed in the premiere.

The Walking Dead Season 7

“Yes, who was at the receiving end of Negan’s bat will be revealed in the first episode.”

Many were wondering how the show would portray Negan, who, inRobert Kirkman’s comics, drops several F-bombs in his numerous profanity-filled tirades. While no F-bombs were dropped in the finale, his now-iconic speech to Rick and his crew was just the first of many rants that will be delivered throughout the series. Here’s whatGreg Nicoterohad to say about the showmanship of Negan.

“Negan is that kind of guy. He’s the kind of guy who imagines himself on stage at a high school production and he loves every second of it. So, I don’t really see a lot of quiet contemplative moments with Negan. I feel like with Negan it’s really going to be about him gesticulating and him sort of relishing in the sound of his own voice while he commands the stage in front of whoever’s alive.”

It was confirmed last week thatJeffrey Dean Morganwill be aseries regularon the show for Season 7, along withTom Payneas Jesus,Austin Amelioas Dwight, one of Negan’s Saviors, andXander Berkeleyas Hilltop Colony leader Gregory. As for Negan’s victim, that most certainly won’t be revealed until the Season 7 premiere, which will happen sometime in October. The show’s cast and producers will most likely unveil the premiere date during their annualComic-Conpanel, which will take place on Friday, July 22 at 12 PM in Hall H. Stay tuned for more details onThe Walking DeadSeason 7 as soon as we have more information, but in the meantime, take a look at this new Negan photo below.
