“I’ve heard someone important is gonna die.”
Of course, considering that in the final season the protagonists will once again have to face Jamie Campbell Bower’s Vecna âânow that the Upside Down began to take control of Hawkins in the finale of the fourth installment, it is to be expected that some of the main characters may fall in battle like Eddie did, and as it almost happened to Max (Sadie Sink).
In fact, one of the fans who quoted the tweet with Van Dien’s statement, put it in a thread as part of a theory stating that it will be Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin who does not survive, since the loss of this character would be one of the most shocking for the audience and they would not see it coming.

What to Expect from Stranger Things Final Season
Regardless of who may fall in the ultimate fight against Vecna, the final season ofStranger Thingswill surely be one of the show’s most epic ones. In the fourth part, the story focused largely on Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) past, showing her direct connection to the villain and how he was present from the beginning in her life. So El will definitely play a central role in the battle.
For his part, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) will also regain prominence, since he is one of the few who has spent an important amount of time at the Upside Down and established a relationship with the dark energy present there, just like Max.
ButStranger Thingsis mostly known for distributing the roles very well and giving enough screen time to all its stars, so surely everyone will have their moment to shine during the finale.
As for the future of the franchise,Netflixhas already confirmed an animated series that will work as a spinoff, although at the moment it is unknown if it will focus on any of the characters already introduced or will tell a new story away from Hawkins and its heroes.
