With production continuing onGame of Thrones Season 7, there still hasn’t been much released from HBO regarding new cast member or plot details, but that isn’t surprising, considering how secretive last season was. Today we have a new report that claims the show has added two more cast members, British actorJoseph Quinnand Irish actorPaul Ward. While we do know whoJoseph Quinnis playing, a character named Koner, no details aboutPaul Ward’s role were given.
Watchers On the Wall broke the news, revealing that there is no character named Koner inGeorge R.R. Martin’sA Song of Fire and Icenovels, so it seems this character is being created specifically for this season. It’s also possible that Koner is a fake name to disguise the real character he’s playing, but we don’t know for sure. As forPaul Ward, he already filmed his role in August, although no details were given for his role.
Last week, another casting rumor surfaced that singerDevin Oliverfrom the band I See Stars has been cast in an unspecified role, which many believe if Rhaegar Targaryen, the older brother of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). While we still haven’t seen Rhaegar on the show yet, Bran Stark’s (Isaac Hempstead Wright) greensight visions in the Season 6 finale confirmed the long-held fan theory “R+L=J,” meaning Jon Snow’s (Kit Harington) real father is actually Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark, the sister of Ned Stark (Sean Bean). It had been long established that Jon was the bastard son of Ned Stark, but in the Season 6 finale, this fan theory was proven to be true.
While it was never confirmed thatDevin Oliverhas landed a role, the singer, who would be makling his acting debut inGame of Thrones, bears quite the striking resemblance toEmilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen, and also her late brother Viserys (Harry Lloyd), who was brutally killed by Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa) in the first season. After the rumor surfaced, a well-read Redditor pointed out that, in George R.R. Martin’s books, Rhaegar sung a song at Harrenhall that brought tears to Lyanna’s eyes. It’s possible that, ifDevin Oliverhas been cast as Rhaegar, his singing skills will be put to use.
It’s worth noting that, in the 10 months between Season 5 and Season 6, HBO didn’t confirm any cast members whatsoever, so we likely won’t get any confirmation on this report until Season 7 debuts next summer. The hit fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin’s novels recently started filming Season 7, a few months later than usual, since the arrival of winter inWesterosrequires a colder climate for the production. Hopefully HBO releases some new details aboutGame of ThronesSeason 7 soon, as production continues.
