Ghostbusters: Frozen Empiremay see the team save the world once again, but what was that mid-credits scene all about? Director Gil Kenan spoke toEntertainment Weeklyabout all things Ghostbusters, and explained that the fun scene is so much more than a joke.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
While there is no guarantee thatGhostbusters 6will ever happen, all signs at the moment suggestFrozen Empirewill do enough at the box office to secure a sequel. Thankfully, if another movie is green-lit, then Kenan and producer Jason Reitman already have a plan that will see the movie’s mid-credit scene become very important.
In the scene, the mischievous Mini-Pufts – the teeny, slightly sadistic versions of the 1984 movie’s gargantuan Stay Puft Marshmallow Man that wereintroduced inGhostbusters: Afterlife– are seen stealing a delivery truck full of none other than Stay Puft marshmallows. What could they possibly want with those? Kenan explained:

“Jason and I definitely have a story up our sleeves that continues that narrative thread. There’s more trouble where that came from. Nothing we can talk about yet, but it feels like those guys have way more story to tell. I love those guys; they’re so fun to direct. [They’re] primadonnas. Their rider is impossible, but it’s worth it for what they do onscreen.”
Afterlifesuccessfully set up the franchise’s return to the New York firehouse, and teased that there were big problems in store for the containment unit housed in the basement. WithKenan and Reitman seemingly already plotting the next installmentof the saga, fans can only hope that Sony are willing to take another punt on further adventures for the team.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Combines Nostalgia and New Scares
As withGhostbusters: Afterlife, the premise ofFrozen Empireis half new story, half throwback to the glories of the franchise’s past. In both films, this has played out a lot better in the eyes of audiences than it has in those of critics. Despitethe movie scoring a franchise low with a still decreasing 43% Tomatometer scoreon Rotten Tomatoes, the audience approval rate is holding steady around 85%, making it one of the best movies according to those who decide how successful a movie really is.
With a story that sees the Ghostbusters headquarters once again under siege, and ghosts from the past returning, Kenan and Reitman set up the perfect opportunity to revisit some classic apparitions from the original movie, including Slimer and the Library Ghost, as well as the return of the Mini-Pufts. This, combined with a terrifying new villain in Garraka, has certainly paid off so far, and could well continue if a new movie does arrive.

Ghostbusters' Biggest Problem Is an Identity Crisis
Busting hasn’t made us feel good for a while now. Is the franchise focusing on the wrong things?
From the comments made by Kenan, there is every chance that we could seethe return of the original Stay Puft Marshmallow Manin future, as well as a host of new and old specters, spooks, and ghosts for the guys and girls of the team to deal with.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empireis out now in cinemas.
