In one of his very last acting roles,House of 1000 Corpsesstar and genre legend Sid Haig will appear in the new holiday horror movieHanukkah. Written and directed by Eben McGarr (House of the Wolf Man), the movie will premiere in select theaters on Dec. 13 with home video releases on VHS and Blu-ray to follow in limited quantities. TheHanukkahtrailer arrives just a few months afterSid Haig’s death. If the footage and synopsis are any indication,Hanukkahlooks to be a rather fun holiday-themed slasher movie, the likes of which we don’t see too often these days. The story follows a group of Jewish young adults preparing for the Festival of Lights, only to find out they are instead in store for a Festival of Frights. When they learn they have been targeted by a bloodthirsty murderer for violating Judaic law, the group’s best chance for survival is to embrace their faith with the help of a wise Rabbi.
JoiningSid Haigin the movie are a handful of other well-known stars of the horror genre. This includes P. J. Soles, who starred in John Carpenter’s originalHalloweenmovie and the firstCarrieadaptation; Soles can even be heard uttering herHalloweencatch phrase, “Totally,” in theHanukkahtrailer. Other genre favorites featured in the cast include Caroline Williams (Hatchet III,The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Charles Fleischer (A Nightmare on Elm Street), and Sadie Katz (Wrong Turn 6).
Rather appropriately for aretro-style slasher movie,Hanukkahwill be released on VHS later this month. With each of the video tapes arriving in classic clamshell cases, the VHS edition ofHanukkahcomes in three separate colors: blue, yellow, and black. Priced at $25, the VHS version can now be pre-ordered, though all three colors are limited to only 100 copies each. Also priced at $25 is theHanukkahBlu-ray, which comes loaded with special features and will be shipped come February.
Since His passing back in September, fans and colleagues have beenmourning the loss of Sid Haig. The veteran actor died just days after the release of3 from Hell, which saw him reprising his legendary Captain Spaulding role one last time. In addition toHanukkah, Haig also posthumously stars in the upcoming horror movieAbruptioalongside Jordan Peele, Robert Englund, James Marsters, and Christopher McDonald. Making every movie he appears in that much better, Haig was a truly special person and a one of a kind actor.
Hanukkahwill be released in limited theaters on Dec. 13 with its VHS copies shipping on Dec. 20. The Blu-ray version will also be released on Jun 17, 2025.
