After the release of two well-received trailers, many believeMargot Robbie’sHarley Quinnwill steal the show whenSuicide Squadis released this summer. But while it falls under the DC Comics brand, the actress warns that her character is not really a superhero. She’s a damaged woman who likes to participate in a little bloodshed. Basically, Harley is not a nice girl. Taking withVogue,Robbiehad this to say about her big screen alter ego.

“She doesn’t even have superpowers. She’s just apsychopathwho runs around gleefully killing people-she finds joy in causing mayhem, which makes her weirdly endearing and fun to watch.”

When it came time to cast Harley Quinn, directorDavid Ayerdidn’t hold auditions. He knew who he wanted right away. He simply sentMargot Robbiethe script, which he wrote himself, and told her the part was hers for the taking. Of course she said yes, and the answer came without hesitation. It helped thatWill Smithhad already signed on asDeadshot. The two previously worked together on the 2015 heist thrillerFocus, and they had a certain kind of chemistry that couldn’t be denied.

David Ayeris the first to praise Margot Robbie’s performance. He loves what she brings to the screen asDr. Harleen Frances Quinzel. And frankly, he can’t imagine anyone else taking on the role. About the actress, he had this to say.

“She’s a tough girl, and she’s incredibly smart and mature beyond her years. She has ridiculous depth, and she’s never been coddled, so she’s very physically courageous. The things she was doing herself as far as stunts, you wouldn’t believe. There’s only a handful of actors who do that sort of work themselves.”
