Hugh Jackmanmade waves on the Internet yesterday when he mentionedTom Hardyas a possible replacement for indestructible mutantLoganafter Hugh’s done with the character followingWolverine 3. As everyone knows by now,Wolverine 3will be the final timeHugh Jackmandons the claws for 20th Century Fox and their X-Men franchise. Fans have continuously speculated about who may be called in to assume the position after 2017. And some even believe Fox may have a contender waiting in the wings. Fan art maestroBossLogichas taken it upon himself to show the word exactly what Tom Hardy would look like suited up in the inevitable reboot. The results are pretty impressive.
A lot of fans believe thatHugh Jackmanis irreplaceable as Wolverine. But that has never stopped Hollywood from rebooting one of its more popular characters. No one can escape the reboot machine, not even Han Solo, who will be recast with a younger actor in an upcomingStar Wars Anthologymovie set to hit screens in 2018. Audiences are growing accustomed to seeing new actors step into iconic roles. And if the casting right, fans may even embrace a new Logan. But should it beTom Hardy?
It has beenrumoredthatWolverine 3will close out the entireX-Menfranchise thatBryan Singercreated, with the series spinning off intoThe New MutantsandX-Force. 2014’sX-Men: Days of Future Pasthas already served as a quasi-reboot as it altered the timeline, changing everything that has come in the past sequels and completely wiping out the events seen inX-Men: The Last Stand. But right now,Hugh Jackmanhas one more full movie to go, with cameos being teased forX-Men: Apocalypse,GambitandDeadpool. Logan doesn’t age, so it will be a case of swapping in one actor for another.
While promoting his new moviePan, in theaters October 9, Hugh Jackman was asked whom he’d like to take over as Wolverine, during an interview withMTV. He claims to want a younger actor, but his choice ofTom Hardydoesn’t necessarily fit that bill. About who could replace him, Hugh Jackman had this to say.
“I haven’t really given it a lot of thought, but I’ve been asked that question a lot, and I always said, ‘I don’t want to make it too easy on the studio to replace me.’ I’ve still got one more to do, but I’m sure they’re already talking about it. He’s younger than me, for sure, I thinkTom Hardywould be great.”
It isn’t known if 20th Century Fox is actually mulling over who may replaceHugh JackmanasWolverine, especially since production won’t begin onWolverine 3until early 2016. We still don’t have any confirmed plot details forWolverine 3yet, but there have been rumors thatX-Men Origins: WolverinestarLiev Schreibermay be reprising his role asSabretooth.James Mangoldis directing from a script byMichael Green.Patrick Stewartis co-starring in the movie, and one of the themes is the father-son bond shared by Logan and Xavier.
Tom Hardyis no stranger to the superhero world, having played the villainous Bane in 2012’sThe Dark Knight Rises, although he has yet to star in an adaptation of a Marvel comic book. We reported in August that the actor is attached to star in theDC Comicsadaptation100 Bullets, but it isn’t known if he would even be interested in taking on theWolverinerole. Hugh Jackman was 32 years old when the firstX-Mencame out back in 2000. If in factTom Hardydoes sign on at some point, the 38-year-old actor would be a bit older than his predecessor when taking over the character.
Hugh Jackman has starred in seven movies as Logan/Wolverine, 2000’sX-Men, 2003’sX2: X-Men United, 2006’sX-Men: The Last Stand, 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverine, 2011’sX-Men: First Class, 2013’sThe Wolverineand last year’sX-Men: Days of Future Past. Hugh Jackman hasn’t been confirmed for a role in the upcomingX-Men: Apocalypseyet, but the actor’s cryptic conversation withBryan Singeron the Comic-Con stage hinted that he may be coming aboard. Before Comic-Con,Hugh Jackman’sEddie the Eagleco-starTaron Egertonhinted that he’d like to assume the role. At 13 years younger thanTom Hardy, we think he’s a better choice.
