And it’s becoming harder and harder to avoid any more new footage. Today, we have a new featurette that is completely safe to watch and absolutely spoiler free. All of the footage is from the third and final domestic trailer that arrived a few weeks ago. But it is interspersed with new interviews from the cast and crew discussing the reasons whyStar Wars: The Force Awakensis best viewed in IMAX. DirectorJ.J. Abramsmakes the case, saying this.
“I’m a huge fan of what IMAX is about. I wanted to shoot this one sequence in the format to have a movie, even one sequence of it shot, using those cameras. You feel it. And it ends up being that much more fun to watch. For fans of Star Wars, they’ll get to experience a sequence in a way they haven’t before. That feeling of going to the movies, and having a fully immersive, high quality presentation of the film. It is something that is more valuable than ever. And I think that IMAX stands for that. And when you go see a movie in that format, you know you are getting the best version of going out to the movies. "
The sequence in question, which was completely shot using IMAX cameras, takes place on the desert planet of Jakku. The Millennium Falcon is being chased by TIE Fighters. And the iconic ship takes a shortcut through a crashed Star Destroyer. About shooting the IMAX scenes that take place on Jakku, new franchise additionJohn Boyega, who plays the AWOL Stormtrooper Finn, had this to say.
“I just remember being on set where you see Finn in the desert. That was the first time I saw the IMAX cameras up close. And when I saw that logo on the camera, I was like, ‘Oh, yes!'”
