Milly Alcock, the TV star ofHouse of the Dragonand the future Supergirl in James Gunn’s DC Universe, is gearing up for herofficial headlining gig in the pantheon of modern superheroes. Previously, the 25-year-old actor shot to stardom a few years ago when she played Rhaenyra Targaryen in Season 1 of theGame of Thronesspin-off. As important as that role was, Alcock remembers the experience as “very terrifying.” Things became a bit more intimidating when “someone very high up” saw her on set, and told her she needed to get some acting lessons.

Alcock appeared onThe Tonight Showto chat with Jimmy Fallon aboutHouse of the Dragon, her breakout role which likely put her on Gunn’s radar as the next Supergirl. The actor was candid about starring in one of the most widely praised HBO shows in recent years. Even though she admits that it changed her life, she also recalled an awkward moment on her second day of shooting:

“On my second day on House of the Dragon, one of the, I’m not going to say who, but someone very high up, pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re going to get you an acting coach.’

“It just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job. You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.'”

As Fallon points out, whoever said that to her was not right at all. From the beginning of the show, Alcock became one of the most belovedHouse of the Dragoncharacters in the early part of the show. Unfortunately, Alcock’s run in the fantasy series was short-lived as the character aged and was later portrayed by Emma D’Arcy.

While onThe Tonight Show, Alcock was asked about Supergirl, but Alcock kept quiet about any details referring to the DCU.The actor did talk aboutSirens, her upcoming Netflix show alongside Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon and Meghann Fahy. Describing the black comedy series, she said that “it basically takes place over the Labor Day weekend. I work for Kiki (Moore), and we’re trying to plan this gala, and basically, my sister (Fahy) shows up and just kind of causes havoc and chaos.”

Milly Alcock’s schedule is pretty busy at the moment, as James Gunn selected her to play the DC staple duringhis relaunch of the DC Universefor Warner Bros. Alcock will debut in a small role as Supergirl in 2025’sSupermanbefore headlining her own film.

Supermanis the first film in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Alcock’sSupergirl: Woman of Tomorrowwill premiere in theaters in June 2026. Craig Gillespie is directing a script by Ana Nogueira, which is based on the 2021 comic book series of the same name by Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely.
