In just a few short days, the aliens will return to wipe out humanity in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming sequelIndependence Day: Resurgence. Set 20 years after the original blockbusterIndependence Day, this follow-up brings some of your favorite characters from the original back, along with a host of new faces trying to save the world as we know it. While we wait for the June 24 release date, 20th Century Fox has debuted a new clip, while directorRoland Emmerichdiscusses the possibility of a sequel.
The clip, which surfaced onYouTubetoday, offers a new look at one of the returningIndependence Daystars,Brent Spineras Dr. Brackish Okun. The good doctor is unveiling what he calls the “Okun laser,” which he built back in 1994 and is now trying to use to cut open one of thealien ships. If that wasn’t enough, we also have a new TV spot and a poster for this sequel below.

At one point duringIndependence Day 2’s lengthy development process, there was talk that directorRoland Emmerichwas planning on shooting two sequels back-to-back. While that plan was scrapped, the filmmaker recently spoke with Empire, where he teased that this movie is setting up potential sequels, although he doesn’t expect fans will have to wait another 20 years for that to happen.
“If it’s successful enough, yes, because it’s set up for a sequel. In 20 years? No, I wouldn’t want to make it with a Zimmer frame!”
