Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyrevealed a first look atHarrison Ford’s hero looking somewhat sprightly thanks to de-aging effects used to turn back the clock on the old adventurer. As confirmed in recent interviews, Indiana Jones will be seen in the opening sequence of the new movie looking pretty much like he did back in the years of his earliest appearances. While many questioned exactly how much Ford would be made to look like his younger self, the arrival of the trailer has answered that question, as can be seen below.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinywill arrive in cinemas next summer, and James Mangold teased that a trailer would be coming “in the next 30 days.” It was assumed that the trailer would play beforeAvatar: The Way of Waterthis month, and no one expected it to arrive quite so soon. Nevertheless, the buzz generated by the title reveal and the first good look at what to expect from the fifth and final Indiana Jones movie has been instant, and it seems likeHarrison Ford’s swansongis certainly going to see him leave the franchise with a bang.

Last weeka number of stills from the movie were released, which did suggest that the trailer was incoming. While there is still a lot of the plot to be fleshed out, there is enough going on in the trailer to warrant multiple watches to catch it all. One thing for certain is that the film is ready to deliver the kind of thrills and excitement that has been at the core of all of Indy’s adventures.

How Did Harrison Ford React To His Indiana Jones De-Aging?

In exclusive interviews withEmpire Magazine, Harrison Ford discussedwhat it was like seeing his more youthful appearancein the movie’s opening sequence for the first time. Having been kitted out in replicas of some of his old costumes, it obviously took some getting used to. Ford said:

“This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it. It’s a little spooky. I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it works. Doesn’t make me want to be young, though. I’m glad to have earned my age.”

When the first set photos appeared online during the movie’s filming, there were clear signs that80-year-old Fordwould be de-aged for at least a part of the movie. While there were some rumors that the technique would also be used throughout the film, that has been debunked by the trailer. According to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, the main aim of the de-aging is for audiences to feel like they are back in an old Indiana Jones story. She said:

“My hope is that, although it will be talked about in terms of technology, you just watch it and go, ‘Oh my God, they just found footage. This was a thing they shot 40 years ago.’ We’re dropping you into an adventure, something Indy is looking for, and instantly you have that feeling, ‘I’m in an Indiana Jones movie.’”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinywill be released on June 17, 2025.
