The official release of the synopsis by Sony Pictures gives an idea of what we can expect. “Set ten years after the end of the previous first two films, Josh Lambert heads east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dreambecomes a nightmarewhen the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.”

Time marches on for everyone, and so does for the Lampert family. They seem to have managed to move on from their adventures with the demons from The Further ten years ago. Their son, Dalton, the same boy who could astral project himself just like his father did, has grown up, and it is time for him to go to college, one of the most important and exciting times in a person’s life. But even if he and his family have moved on, the demons have not. Time moves differently on The Further, they have not forgotten the connection he and his father have with this “place”, and they still want a body to return.

Ty Simpkins has the part of Dalton Lampert, returning to his character fromInsidiousandInsidious: Chapter 2. Despite his young age, Simpkins has already taken part in some of the biggest franchises of our time, includingJurassic World, andIron Man 3as Tony Stark’s young helper Harley Keener, whom he reprises inAvengers: Endgame. Dalton’s father Josh Lampert is portrayed by Patrick Wilson, who is also directing the movie in his directorial debut. His frequent appearances in horror films besides theInsidiousmovies include the highly successful movies inThe Conjuringuniverse, but his body of work containsa variety of films, includingAquaman,Watchmen,Fargo, and many more.

Ranai Lampert, the wife and mother of the family, is played by Rose Bryne. She is also returning to theInsidiousfranchise once again. She is a two-time Golden Globe Award and two-time Primetime Emmy Award winner for her role as Ellen Parsons in the legal thriller seriesDamages. We have also seen her inX-Men: First Class, andX-Men: Apocalypse, as well in thePeter Rabbitmovies andAnnie(2014).

Other cast members, whose characters are unknown, include Peter Dager (WITS Academy, Who Invited Charlie?), Hiam Abbas (Blade Runner 2049), Sinclair Daniel, AJ Dyer, Jaylin Loveday, and Jarquez McClendon.

The story is by Leigh Whannell and the screenplay is by Scott Teems. Whannell is really experienced with horror movies, since the actor/writer/producer is behind many popular horror franchises besides the creation ofInsidious, like theSawmovies. Scott Teems’ writing carrier includes movies like 2022’sFirestarter,The Quarry, episodes ofNarcos, andRectify.

Release Date

Insidious: Fear the Darkis set to be released on July 7 in the United States by Sony Pictures. In February 2022, it wasconfirmed by Wilsonthat location scouting had begun, and filming was about to start in the coming spring. Filmingwrapped in late August 2022.

It is a great time to be a horror fan. With all of these releases, we feel that most of them are at least fun, and some of them were absolute masterpieces.
