Harry Potterfans all over the world are on the edge of their seats awaiting the opportunity to find out what happens in the eighth story that J.K.Rowling is telling in the wizarding world.Harry Potter and the Cursed Childis being done as a two part stage play in London and will not be released as a book, however the play is being released for fans to read. The author has taken to the web in advance of the play’s preview run to ask fans not to spoil it for others.

Rowlingwas featured in aYouTubevideo on theHarry Potter and the Cursed Childchannel in which she said some kind words about her fans but also urged them not to spoil the story for anyone. The video was uploaded yesterday in anticipation of the preview run forThe Cursed Child, which starts tonight. Here is what the author had to say.

“You’ve been amazing for years at keepingHarry Potter secretsso you didn’t spoil the books for readers who came after you. So I’m asking you one more time to keep secrets and let audiences enjoy Cursed Child with all the surprises that we’ve built into the story.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Childis set to debut for its full run on July 30 in London. The story takes place 19 years after the events ofThe Deathly HallowsandJ.K. Rowlingwrote the script for the play herself, so it is without question an authentic continuation of the storyline from the books, just in a different medium. Details have been kept pretty well under wraps up until now, but the production has come under some heat for casting, as actress Noma Dumezweni landed the role of Hermione, who just so happens to be a black actress. That didn’t sit too good with certain fans, but theHermione backlashdidn’t sit too good withRowlingin return. She had this to say about the controversy.

“I had a bunch of racists telling me that because Hermione ‘turned white’ - that is, lost color from her face after a shock - that she must be a white woman, which I have a great deal of difficulty with. But I decided not to get too agitated about it and simply state quite firmly that Hermione can be a black woman with my absolute blessing and enthusiasm.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Childofficially opens on July 30 and the book of the script is set for release on July 31. After that, it is very hard to imagine thatspoilersfor the show will be kept under wraps in the modern age.Harry Potterfans may be respectful on the whole, but between media coverage and the amount of social media attention it will be getting, it will be virtually impossible to keep spoilers out of the equation, which is a little unfortunate given that the play is only in London for now and is sold out for quite some time. Die hardPotterfans would be best served by reading the play as soon as they can, or avoiding social media entirely until they can get the story on their own terms.
