Jake Gyllenhaalhas been a fan-favorite to take on the role of Batman for some time, and theRoad Housestar has addressed what it would mean to take on such an iconic role – even if it isn’t on the cards just yet.

Gyllenhaal is currently starring in the remake ofRoad Houseon Prime Video, and at an event supporting the movie’s release earlier this month, the actor was asked byScreen Rantwhether he would still be up for playing the role of the Dark Knight, a part he auditioned for in the past. Gyllenhaal responded:
“Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor. Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that. So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”
Currently, Robert Pattinson is the onlyBatmanon the block, with MIchael Keaton’s fleeting return seemingly now relegated to a one-shot appearance. However, there is a new Batman heading to the DCU soon, with casting for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s Dark Knight rebootThe Brave and the Boldset to happen in the near future. Whether Gyllenhaal will be one of those in contention for that role is something that we will have to wait to find out.
Jake Gyllenhaal Could Be Just Right to Play James Gunn’s DCU Batman
Gyllenhaal has been spending a lot of time promotingRoad Housein the last several weeks, but with the film now available on Prime Video, he will be getting ready to begin his next project. As he mentioned, this will be his role in the Broadway version ofOthelloalongside Denzel Washington, which debuts in spring 2025.
Washington will play the titular role, while Gyllenhaal portrays Iago in the Kenny Leon-directed version of the Shakespeare play. Of course, both actors have had lengthy runs on Broadway in the past, so stage productions are nothing new to the pair. Gyllenhaal most recently appeared in the one-person monologueA Lifein 2019, while Washington’s last time treading the boards was in the 2018 revival ofIceman Cometh.
James Gunn Offers Update on Casting for Batman: The Brave and the Bold
Now that the new Superman has been announced, fans want to know who will be playing Batman in The Brave and the Bold.
The timing of his Broadway appearance would certainly fit with Gyllenhaal being able to subsequently take a shot at playing Batman inThe Brave and the Bold. With Gunn having already teased an older version of the Caped Crusader, who will discover that he has a young son, Damien Wayne, then 43-year-old Gyllenhaal could fit right into this particular iteration of hte character. This could mean him finally taking on the role he almost claimed over a decade ago in Christopher Nolan’sBatman Begins.
