Daniel Craigis ready to step back into the tux and pick up his Walther PPK, as the actor has confirmed thatJames Bond 25is his next project. Craig’s tenure as Bond has been a bit of an up and down affair, with mega highs such asCasino RoyaleandSkyfall, and mega lows such asQuantum of Solace. But he’s got one more shot to go out on top withJames Bond 25. So, after a lot of time speculating about this movie, maybe we can actually start understanding what it’s actually going to be sooner rather than later.
The 50-year-old actor confirmed that the upcomingJames Bondmovie, his fifth, is going to be his next project during a very brief red carpet interview recently at a charity auction. Craig donated his Aston Martin to be auctioned off. Since the interview was so brief, he didn’t sound overly enthused and didn’t have time to dish any more details on the movie. However, he was also asked about Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) possibly directing, which is in the cards. But Craig couldn’t confirm that right now, providing a pretty on-the-fence answer.
“We’ll see, we’ll see.”
While Daniel Craig finallyconfirmed that he would returnforJames Bond 25last August, the director situation has been up in the air for a long time. Sam Mendes, who helmed bothSkyfallandSpectre, announced quite early on that he wasn’t going to be returning. That led to a director search, which has included names like Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and Yann Demange (71), who was the rumored frontrunner for the job. But then Danny Boyle’s name came up. As the story goes, he pitched his own vision forJames Bond 25and now, that script is being worked on by John Hodge (Trainspotting). A recent report indicated that Boyle’s deal to direct is done, but that’s yet to be confirmed by the studio.
Part of the reason for thatmay have to do with MGM, who controls theJames Bondfranchise. The company is reportedly looking to sell to a major studio, with Sony said to be the most likely suitor. MGM is said to be using the rights to theJames Bondfranchise as bait in order to make the sale happen. Having Daniel Craig and Danny Boyle, an Oscar-winning director, locked down for theJames Bond 25package would make the MGM sale even more appealing to Sony, or anyone looking to buy.
James Bond 25is currently set forrelease on June 01, 2025. If that holds true, production will need to get underway on the movie in the near future. Given that Daniel Craig says it’s his next project, it sounds like the movie will indeed start production sometime in the not-too-distant future. Beyond that, any other details in regards to what will be Craig’s last turn as 007 remain mysterious. You can check out the interview clip, courtesy of The Associated Press, for yourself below.
