The scream queen is stepping into new territory!Jamie Lee Curtishas announced that she is writing her very own graphic novel. This news comes to us fromEntertainment Weekly.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Curtis has teamed up with Titan Comics to publishMother Nature. The comic is adapted from an original script penned by Curtis that will also be adapted to film by Comet Pictures and Blumhouse, the film will also be Curtis’s directorial debut. Russell Goldman will be co-writing the script and Karl Stevens will be the illustrator.
Mother Naturefollows Nova Terrel, a young girl on a mission. After witnessing her father’s death in a mysterious incident involving a new oil-extraction project by Cobalt Corporation, Nova grows up distrustful of the big company that her hometown has relied upon for jobs. As she rallies to expose the secrets of the oil giant, Nova accidentally discovers that Cobalt Corps secrets go much deeper than she could have ever imagined. There’s something sinister behind the Mother Nature project, and it could lead to catastrophic consequences for everyone!

From The Other Side of the Lens
While Curtis is most well known for her long list of iconic roles in film history,Halloween,A Fish Called Wanda, andKnives Outjust to name a few, she’s also quite the storyteller!Curtis has written a number of children’s booksstarting withWhen I Was Little: A Four-Year Old’s Memoir of Her Youthin 1993. She’s gone on to publish numerous others throughout the years, all published by HarperCollins. Now she’s bringing her horror roots into the mix, and with a story she’s been holding onto for quite some time, as she’s told Entertainment Weekly.
“I first thought about this story when I was 19 years old. I’ve always been aware of the very unbalanced relationship between humans and nature, and even though I was young, I always knew that, inevitably, nature would win. I have long admired and collected Karl’s work, and I’m very excited he suggested expanding the idea to turn it into a graphic novel. The partnership with Titan has now given us a wonderful platform to begin to tell our story.”
Stevens expressed equal excitement over the project. The painter, illustrator and graphic novelist is no stranger to the kinds of stories comics can tell. His first book,Guilty, was nominated for the 2005 Ignatz Award for Promising New Talent. He told Entertainment Weekly that the story was perfect to be translated into a graphic novel.
“I was immediately blown away by the depth of the characters, the perfect blend of action and gore, the urgent ecological message, and how all these things would translate beautifully into a graphic novel. It’s a joy and privilege to work with Titan Comics and Blumhouse on this project. I’m producing the best work of my career!"
As comics as a medium have grown more into the mainstream as pieces of literature and storytelling, it’s always exciting to see projects such as this come into life. When you blend the right artist with the right script, you can tell a story that blends two worlds together in an unforgettable way.
