The star, producer, and director of Netflix’sOzark,Jason Bateman, has been named Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals 2022 Man of the Year. He is the first recipient of the award since 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Bateman also had a leading role as Michael Bluth in the hit seriesArrested Developmentalongside Michael Cera and has also had leading roles in movies such asGame Night,Juno, and theHorrible Bossesseries.
“We are stoked to present Jason Bateman with the 55th annual Hasty Pudding Man of the Year award. It’s been a hot minute since we’ve handed one of these out, so we figured we’d give it to the guy who all our moms have crushes on after watching Ozark”, organization President Nick Amador said, perHasty Pudding Theatricals.
“We have put tremendous effort into returning to the stage after the pandemic and having Jason Bateman join us in this exciting homecoming is a dream come true,” added co-producer Lucy Goldfarb.
Bateman is a recipient of aPrimetime Emmydue to his work in directingOzarkin 2020. He has also earned two SAG awards and the best actor Golden Globe for his work inArrested Development.According to Hasty Pudding Theatricals, Bateman became the Directors Guild of America’s youngest director for directing three episodes ofValerieat only 18 years old.
The Ivy League’s Man of the year award recipients have been awarded to those who’ve made lasting and monumental contributions to the entertainment industry. Last year’s recipient was actor and singer Ben Platt. Past recipients are among those including Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, and Samuel L. Jackson. The prestigious award has been given out since 1967. Hasty Pudding’s Woman of the Year Award was also established in 1951. Its 2021 recipient wasOscar-winner Viola Daviswhile the 2022 recipient has yet to be announced.
Bateman will receive his Pudding Pot on February 3rd, 2022, according to the Theater Troupe. The Hasty Pudding Theatricals will host a celebratory roast for Bateman and present him with his Pudding Pot at Farkas Hall, which has been the Pudding’s historic home since 1888. Then, following a press conference, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals will perform a preview ofHPT 173: Ship Happens, its 3rd production and first show in two years after canceling the show due to the pandemic.
