After spending years in development,Jeepers Creepers 3is finally moving forward, with Myriad Pictures announcing today at the Toronto International Film Festival that they will produce the sequel, according toBloody-Disgusting.Jeepers CreepersandJeepers Creepers 2writer-directorVictor Salvawill return to write and direct thehorror sequel, with Jonathan Breck slated to return as The Creeper and Brandon Smith reprising his role as Sergeant Davis Tubbs from the originalJeepers Creepers. Here’s what filmmakerVictor Salvahad to say in a statement.

“Writing and directing a new Jeepers film, the first in over a decade, is incredibly exciting. For me and I believe for Jeepers fans all over the world that have been asking for more. What will go before cameras asJeepers Creepers 3is a new and terrifying chapter from the Jeepers universe. We are bringing back the Creeper’s truck, and will be addressing the big questions about The Creeper: what it is, where it came from and why it does what it does. More exciting though, this will easily be the most frightening rollercoaster ride of a Jeepers film that has been made to date.”

The story centers on Tubbs, who leads a task force that assembles to destroy The Creeper for good. The plot will be set on the last day of his 23-day feeding frenzy, which happens once every 23 years, as fans will discover the secret of The Creeper’s haunting origins. We first reported on the sequel way back in 2008, when directorVictor Salvarevealed the title wasJeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral, but that title seems to have been scrapped. We didn’t hear anything further about the sequel until November 2013, whenVictor Salvateased that production may happen soon.

Those reports from 2008 and 2013 revealed the story featured a prologue set in the Old West that shows how The Creeper became a part of Native American and cowboy folklore. It isn’t known if that is still a part of the story, but we’ll have to wait and see. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2016, on location in Vancouver. Myriad Pictures hasn’t scheduled a release date for thesequelquite yet.

Francis Ford Coppolais returning to produce through his American Zoetrope production company, alongside Kirk Shaw andSurai Gohill’s Odyssey Media, and Stan Spry’s The Cartel. Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico will serve as executive producer. The originalJeepers Creepersearned $59.2 million worldwide, from a $10 million budget, whileJeepers Creepers 2took in $63 million worldwide, from a $17 million budget.

Victor Salvahas had a troubled past, of which many believe is reflected back in the character of the Creeper itself. The director’s early career was derailed by revelations of sexual misconduct with one of hisClownhousestars, who was underage at the time.Victor Salvapleaded guilty to one count of lewd and lascivious conduct, one count of oral sex with a person under 14, and three counts of procuring child pornography. He reportedly videotaped himself engaging in sexual acts with the young boy. He was sentenced to three years in prison, of which he served 15 months. All of his films have had themes that tie back into his past digressions, andJeepers Creepers 3probably won’t be any different. So, are you excited that the Creeper is coming back to the big screen? Do you think it could be a biggerbox officehit than its predecessors?
