It’s been exceptionally hard forJohn Stamosto cope with the death of his close friendBob Saget. The two had known each other dating back to their time onFull Houseand had only grown closer ever since. Years after that series had ended, Saget and Stamos were frequently seen together for both personal and professional situations. Stamos had even served last the roast master at Comedy Central’sRoast of Bob Saget.
Everything changed when Saget passed away earlier this month at the age of 65. Because he was still active and so full of life, the news came as a shocker for many, Stamos included. While he’s still trying to wrap his mind around the loss, Stamos does take some comfort in remembering his last memory of Saget. As Stamos toldThe New York Times, Saget was very calm at the time which struck Stamos as unusual, but it seems that the late comedian was at peace before he died.

“The last time we were all together, we went on a double date to Nobu, maybe a month before he passed away. He didn’t look like a guy who was going to die, but he was very calm, which was odd for Bob. He was at peace somehow. And he listened and he was thoughtful and didn’t interrupt; he cared about what we were saying. I hate to say it, but it was the Bob that I always wanted to see. And it was the last time I saw him.”
Initially, Saget and Stamos clashed on the set ofFull House. Stamos believes this is because he came from a dramatic acting background while Saget was a professional comic, and they had a styles clash at first. They grew to become very close friends by being there for each other through hard times. Stamos was there when Saget went through a divorce, and Saget was of service to the whole Stamos family when John’s father passed away.
“This guy steps up like nobody in my life because everybody else was busted up. My sisters, my mom. But Bob wasn’t, and he just stepped in and took care of me, even to the point of, ‘Can I host your dad’s funeral?’ Two hours of dirty jokes that Ithinkmy dad would’ve liked. But he gave people what they needed at that moment. Everybody needed a laugh, and he did it. I think that one really cemented our friendship. And then it just got closer and closer from there, to the point of we just were there through all the most important moments. Now I have to get through them without him.”
