Yesterday, we reported that Lionsgate’s sequelJohn Wick 2brought in a newcast member, withCommonsigning on, and originalJohn WickstarIan McShaneis reprising his role as Winston, the owner of the Hotel Continental. That report revealed production was about to start this week, and as it turns out, filming has in fact started today, according toColliderand Park Slope Stoop. It isn’t known how long the shoot is expected to last, but filming is currently under way in the New York borough of Brooklyn.
Park Slope Stoop spotted filming notices near the Barclays Center, with the production listed as “JW2,” which the location manager confirmed isJohn Wick 2. The originalJohn Wickalso filmed in the Brooklyn area, including the Brooklyn Park Bridge and the restaurant Haru Sushi, which served as the exterior location for the Hotel Continental. SinceIan McShane’s Winston has been confirmed to return, it’s certainly likely that fans will visit this unique hotel again, which caters exclusively to assassins.
Keanu Reevesis set to reprise his title role asJohn Wick, withCommonset to play the primary villain, the head of security for a female crime lord. Other originalJohn Wickstars such asLance Reddick,Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan,Jason Isaacsand Alfie Allen have not been confirmed to reprise their roles quite yet, but with production getting under way, hopefully we’ll get a official cast list soon. Lionsgate has not set a release date forJohn Wick 2yet, but it may be ready for a late 2016 release, depending on how long production will take.
Chad Stahelski, who directed the originalJohn WickwithDavid Leitch, is returning to take the helm onJohn Wick 2, although he will be directing solo. Both filmmakers had planned to tackle the sequel together, but they decided to split up for the time being, withChad Stahelskitaking on the sequel andDavid LeitchdirectingThe Coldest City, which hasCharlize Theronset to star.John WickwriterDerek Kolstadreturned to write the script.
