Somehow,John Wickhas returned. Despite seemingly dying in the fourth chapter of the action franchise, Keanu Reeves will be reprising his role as the beloved assassin. It’s still in the early stages, butJohn Wick 5is officially in the works, and fans will be elated to find out the details announced this week.
During their CinemaCon panel, Lionsgate revealed thatJohn Wick Chapter 5is now in development, along with the confirmation that Reeves will return in the title role. It also sounds like Chad Stahelski is set to helm the upcoming sequel, which is likely many years away from hitting theaters. The head of the studio, Adam Fogelson, reassured fans that a new film would not happen if they did not feel compelled to do so, and that includes Reeves, too. Additionally, he teased that they have something “phenomenal” in store for audiences.

“Keanu, Chad, Basil and Eric would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next. "
One ‘John Wick’ Star Isn’t Interested In Returning for Fifth Movie After Being Cut Earlier in the Franchise
“I had a whole backstory and everything, but I don’t want to get into all that.”
Details surrounding the fifthJohn Wickfilm are understandably scarce, as it seems there is not a script in place either. However, it would not be shocking if Lionsgate fast-tracked the new sequel, especially since Reeves’knees may not hold up for long(and that’s not a joke). The one thing that could hold it up for quite some time is the availability of Stahelski, who is attached to several other major projects, including theHighlanderreboot starring Henry Cavill and aGhost of Tsushimafilm adaptation. That said, there will be plenty of new stories set in the world of John Wick, includingBallerina, which bows out in theaters later this year.
More ‘John Wick’ Films on the Way
In addition toJohn Wick 5, two new projects were announced during CinemaCon by Lionsgate.Chapter 4actor Donnie Yen will star and direct in his own spin-off film, which is being teased as a “Hong Kong-style action” movie that will take place shortly after the events of the lastJohn Wicksequel. Mattson Tomlin, the writer behindTerminator ZeroandThe Batman Part II, will be writing theCainespin-off. Meanwhile, an anime prequel featuring Wick himself is in the works from the director ofUltraman: Rising. It will be a prequel to the events of the very firstJohn Wickfilm.
Ana de Armas will be starring in the next film set in the world ofJohn Wick, titledBallerina. She will be playing the titular assassin in a prequel story set beforeChapter 4that will see Keanu Reeves reprise his beloved role. Thelatest trailershowcased some truly insane stuntwork that only theJohn Wickfranchise could pull off, and thankfully, it features a star at the center that is ready to become the next action hero. Not a lot of movies can pull off a flamethrower vs fire hydrant fight and make it look cool, butBallerinadoes just that.
