Captain America: New World Orderwillbring globe-throttling changesto the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anthony Mackiewill take the lead as the new Captain Americain the film, which will dive deeper into the socio-political scenario of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sam Wilson had been Captain America’s (Steven Rogers) most trusted confidante since they met during the events ofCaptain America: The Winter Soldier. As Falcon, he assisted Rogers in several missions forAvengersand later sided with him duringCivil War, leading him to make a run for his life. After Rogers handed over Sam his shield post the Battle for Earth, the latter traversed several personal crises, issues of social stratification and racial profiling, and his conflicted conscience before accepting his new responsibilities as thenew star-spangled hero inThe Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

And in that journey, he also gave up the mantle of Falcon, leaving his wings with his military aide, Joaquin Torres. Torres dons the wings and becomes Falcon II in Marvel Comics. ThoughThe Falcon and The Winter Soldiernever explicitly mentioned Torres taking over Falcon, a brief glimpse of him seemingly fixing Sam’s wingswas a sign for the audience to prepare for his transitioninto a superhero.

Joaquin Torres Becoming Falcon II

It’s now confirmed that such a thing is going to happen. This would lead to a new Captain America-Falcon relationship, which will continue in the new era of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting withCaptain America: New World Order. Recently, in an interview withScreenRant, director Julius Onah talked about this relationship between Wilson and Torres and said that the two characters would take a journey together in this film that wouldresonate with the audience.

Their relationship is one of my favorite ones in this movie it really helps form the emotional core of how Sam has to define himself as Captain America because he loves this guy. They are both soldiers, they’re brothers, and their journey, I think, is going to be something that really resonates with audiences.

Onah added his experience working with Danny Ramirez and Anthony Mackie, saying that it was incredible sharing a director-to-actor collaboration with the two stars.

I’m thrilled, you know, Danny Ramirez, who’s playing Falcon, he and I go back a bit, so and Anthony’s somebody I’ve been a huge, huge fan of as well. So getting to work with them, first of all, director to actor, and then being able to shape these characters and take the relationship forward is incredible.

Danny Ramirez Going Big in the MCU

Ramirez was confirmed to star inCaptain America: New World Orderduring the D23 Expo 2022, where Kevin Feige especially introduced him to the audience. The actor, who recently starred inTop Gun: Maverickalongside Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, expressed his excitement about working for Marvel Studios again. In the same interview, Ramirez was asked if he knew his character’s transition into Falcon. The actor replied that though he wasn’t sure of it, he knew that MCU is an open door for numerous possibilities and that now he is excited as things have been made official.

I’ve been teased to do it, but moreso, I think you just… anything could happen in this universe. And so I think that was always something that I was like, ‘Okay, you never know.’ And so to finally get the call for it, to finally be official for it… for Julius to be the person that’s leading us through this, and Anthony, just like… it’s a group of like theater-trained actors that I’m excited that we’re going to be able to throw down… in this film.
