Fans waiting for news onJumanji 4have been given an update on the next installment of the revived franchise by starKaren Gillan, but it may not be exactly what they were hoping for. TheJumanjifranchise was rebooted in 2017 with Gillan joining Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black and Kevin Hart, and the leads all returned for a sequel two years later. Having grossed over $1.7 billion between the two movies, it was almost a foregone conclusion that another film would be greenlit, but with the Covid pandemic arriving soon after, there has been little movement on the new sequel.
While promoting her new movieDuel, Gillan was asked when we will get to seethe next adventure for theJumanjicrew, and although it does look like the film is still sure to go ahead, it is not going to be quick in arriving. In her interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Gillan said:

“I don’t know. I think we are going to make another film, but the question is when. That’s what nobody knows yet.”
There are many factors to consider around the newJumanjimovie being made, but mainly the fact that none of the actors involved are exactly short of work, particularly headliner Dwayne Johnson. Having recently appeared in Netflix’sRed Noticeand Disney’sJungle Cruise, which both have a number of sequels being considered, Johnson has also been filming DC movieBlack Adamfor release this summer, and has Christmas action movieRed Onegearing up to shoot for Amazon Studios. Karen Gillan has also been attached to a fair number of projects and is currently shootingGuardians of the Galaxy 3for Marvel.

Jumanji 4 Has Been Teased as Having a ‘Really Big Vision’
Back in January this year, producer Hiram Garcia teased that the nextJumanjimovie will be bigger and better than its predecessors. At the time, in an interview with Collider, Garcia acknowledged that Johnson was really busy but suggested that it would hopefully not be too long before they could get moving on the project. He said:
“It’s going to happen. It’s going to happen, for sure. We have a really big vision for that third Jumanji movie. We just were discussing the pitch the other day. We’re bringing it into Sony shortly. But that movie’s going to happen. It’s going to happen after Red One, but that timing actually works out well with all of the actors scheduled anyway. As you can imagine, Kevin [Hart] is super busy doing a million things, just like DJ is. All of the actors are super busy. So the timing is going to work out great, but we have a really great pitch for the movie we’re about to bring into the studio, probably going to get a script written soon. Sometime after Red One, Jumanji’s going to be on deck once it’s ready to go, and we have a really big vision for that movie.”
While Karen Gillan clearly has not been given much of an update on the project other than it is going to happen, in the end, the schedule is certainly going to come down to Dwayne Johnson’s decision of which sequel he wants to concentrate on next. With a lot of offers piling up, it could be a couple of years before we see anotherJumanjimovie come down the line.
